There are no trifles in insulation. I show the places where all the heat can leave the house.
"If you want to do well, do it yourself." Well, or at least check how everything was done to you. In insulation, it is not so much the thickness of the layer that is important as the thoroughness of the work ...
Friends, I am glad to welcome you. The more stages I go through at my construction site, the more I think:
"Well, at least someone other than me will be so careful about the little things?"
And this is a reality that you just need to accept: For any hired worker (no matter how professional he is), time will always take priority over the quality of work.
Although sometimes it is the little things that decide ...
Like everything in our house, we did the insulation of the attic roof ourselves.
- Each sheet of insulation was laid carefully and accurately.
- All cuts were done exactly according to the desired geometry.
And most importantly, attention was paid to "little things".
It is possible to insulate the roof with a thickness of 400 mm, but at the same time lose all the cold through invisible "cold bridges".
✅ Mauerlat is one of the vulnerable elements.
It would seem that wood itself is an energy efficient material, but the heat will go away through the joints.
For me, the Mauerlat itself is made of two boards 150 by 50 mm. And even in spite of the fact that he is attracted to the armored belt with pins, it is still impossible to avoid the gaps between the boards themselves, and between the armored belt and the Mauerlat.
- Therefore, I insulated this unit on the outside with 100 mm of foam, thereby removing the airflow.
- And from the inside I laid another 100 mm of mineral wool when I was insulating the attic.
✅ Twin beams are the same "weak link".
In rafter systems, there are often options not for a whole, but for a prefabricated bar. And sometimes the rafter legs themselves are made according to this option. And no matter how strongly the elements are pulled together, the gaps will also be.
The main thing here is to remove the ventilation. And in my house I did it with a sealant.
In addition to heat loss, such places are zones of condensation formation, since a sharp temperature drop appears here. Well, what does this threaten the wooden elements of the structure, I think, and so it is clear ...
And I spent a significant part of my time on all these "little things" in my work.
But on the other hand, I am sure that I made the most effective insulation. And all 250 mm of mineral wool will work as it should.
Well, except for me, for me, would someone try the same??? Not sure.
