Soviet stamp on the architecture of the CIS

There is no such person in the post-Soviet space who does not know about these panel houses. They can be found in almost every city of the CIS, big or not. It is worth noting that prototypes of the Khrushchevs were found in Prague and East Berlin.

Where did they come from?

The idea was borrowed from the French architect Le Corbusier. One of the main faces of the architectural style is brutalism. Yes, these boxes have their own style. Originally "our" construction has foreign roots.

Why were they needed?

The history of typical residential buildings stretches back to post-war times. The cities were heaps of construction waste, and the villages were burnt out. This is the first problem that faced the Soviet leadershiplack of cheap (and indeed any) living space in the USSR.

The second problem of the Soviet housing stock was communal apartments. Solutions in the form of panel five-story buildings allowed each family to get a small, but their own, separate apartment with its own kitchen and bathroom.

Khrushchevs were meant as temporary housing for a quarter of a century.

Characteristic

Khrushchev has a number of problems that are known to most of the older generation:

• Good thermal conductivity. Another Soviet cliché carpets on the wall were designed to keep the apartment warm.
