What to sow in August in order to have time to reap a good harvest. I get benefits until late autumn
Do you want to harvest more than one harvest? Then a fiery salute, comrade, a vegetable grower greedy for exploits in the garden! Today on the agenda - a list of excellent crops that you can plant in August and have time to collect the results of your labor.
"Plant? In August? What else! "- someone will say and will be left without a possible harvest
You probably naively thought that in the last month of summer you can blissfully relax and languish in bliss on the veranda, drinking tea with thyme between picking tomatoes; and only the harvesting of potatoes looming on the horizon spoiled the mood. But you rationally banished the thought of her like an annoying fly.
Far from it! Some crops not just CAN, but SHOULD be planted in August. For they will grow thanks to, and not in spite of. For some reason, many summer residents have the false impression that plants grow actively only in the first half of summer. Far from it! There are cultures that
not give it for nothing these scorching rays and sultry July nights; but the coming coolness of August-September will be very happy.Greens of all stripes
I will not open America by talking about the growth rate of "greenery". I will only emphasize that cool nights and more frequent rains will make it juicier and more tender, while the June and July heat has dried up the leaves of the same lettuce.
Comrade! Don't miss the opportunity to pamper yourself and the seven vitamins:
- dill,
- basilica,
- cilantro,
- spinach,
- leafy salads,
- bow on a feather,
- arugula and what else do you want.
A couple of months will pass - and the "brilliant green" from your garden will become wealth. I'm not even talking about the fact that some spicy herbs are useful for late harvesting. Do not forget to freeze chopped dill and parsley so that in winter the aroma of your borsch will spread to the porch.
Juicy radishes without shooters - this is August
Who said that radishes are sown in the spring? At the end of summer, exactly the same weather conditions develop, which are ideal for radishes.. To be sure to have time to crunch, choose early varieties. I am not original and every August I sow a "French breakfast" which is ready to eat 25 days after germination.
Note to a friend: August's tired sun promotes the ripening of sweet root vegetables
You can sow early radish all August. Surely, some piece of land has already been freed. For example, after harvesting winter garlic. Just don't forget to replenish the soil resources - I'm putting some humus into the soil.
Daikon is an exotic radish that loves coolness
Do you want something new? Comrade, I strongly recommend sowing a couple of rows of daikon - radish either in Chinese or in Japanese style. True, you have to hurry: daikon ripening period is about 60 days. So, run for the seeds now.
Friendly tip: Be sure to try the daikon salad with herbs, carrots and mayonnaise. Japanese radish gives a simple dish an unusual taste with a slight pungency.
Comrade! Despite the exoticism, the daikon is surprisingly unpretentious. Planted in early August, it grows into fairly large root vegetables with excellent taste by October without much effort on the part of the vegetable grower.
I planted something from the list - and now you can go to brew herbal tea to sit on the veranda in anticipation of your favorite harvest of potatoes.
Was the selection interesting? Click, comrade, "Thumbs up"! Sincerely yours, about to urgently go to visit a friend while digging potatoes, summer resident Fyodor Tyapkin-Sklyankin.
