Khrushchev and Stalin. Advantages and disadvantages of living in different types of apartments

The problems affecting the "housing issue" are different. Unfortunately, I also had to face this and feel all the charms and disadvantages of living in apartments with different layouts.

I spent almost all my life in a three-room "stalinka" building and realized its indisputable advantages only after our family decided to sell the apartment. The proceeds were supposed to buy two small apartments for separate living, and they did just that. So, the move happened. We became the owners of a small "odnushka" and a two-room "Khrushchev". The latter will be discussed.

I must say that the big difference in living in "Stalin" and "Khrushchev" was not immediately noticeable. Well, who does not have unforeseen circumstances and who does not trade? However, after several years, all the disadvantages began to appear.

So:

1. Ceilings. Unlike the "stalinka", where the ceilings are about 3 meters or more, the "Khrushchev" type apartment has a standard of 2 m 50 cm. Due to this difference, over time, there is a feeling of a lack of space.

2. Quadrature. In "Khrushchevs" it is always less, by 10-15 meters (if you take apartments of different types with the same number of rooms). In addition to the differences in the general square, there is a difference in the area of the rooms. So, in "Stalinka" a large room has a footage of 18-20 meters, in "Khrushchev" the standard is 13-14 meters. In "Stalin", one corridor can have an area of up to 15 squares, in an apartment of "Khrushchev" type it barely reaches 6 meters.

Thus, in rooms with a smaller area, the lack of free space is strongly felt.

  • Photo 2.1 Corridor in the "Khrushchev".
  • Photo 2.2 Corridor in the "stalinka".
  • 3. Location of rooms. Often in the "Khrushchev" rooms are one after another, "wagon". The disadvantage of this location is not complete isolation and household inconveniences. For example, to get from the back room to the toilet, to the kitchen or to leave the apartment, you need to go through another room. This can greatly disturb the household members in it. In general, "no personal space".
  • Photo 3. Adjacent rooms in "Khrushchev", which are separated only by a door.

In "Stalin", basically, all the rooms are separate, isolated (with rare exceptions, of course). This allows you to calmly go about your business and not be afraid that someone will suddenly come in and interfere.

4. Bathroom and toilet. In Khrushchev-type apartments, they are located in one small room. The disadvantage of this location is obvious - it causes inconvenience at certain delicate moments. For example, when one of the household members urgently needs to go to the toilet, and the other decided to wash his hands or take a shower. If this situation develops when guests are in the apartment, then the discomfort is felt even more. In "stalinka" everything is in different rooms, which allows you to quietly retire and not experience problems.

  • 5. Pantry. In "Khrushchevs" it takes up a minimum of space, which is only enough for storing conservation and unnecessary trifles. In an apartment of the "Stalinist" type, the pantry is much larger, it can be stored here as food preparations for the winter, as well as large things and even small two-wheeled vehicles (carts, bicycles) or children strollers.

    6. Soundproofing. Due to the small square and the adjacent arrangement of rooms in the apartments of the "Khrushchev" type, audibility is increased. Accordingly, in the "stalinkas" things are much better, because the corridor separating the rooms is a good barrier against the penetration of unwanted sounds.

I would also like to highlight the topic of redevelopment of an apartment into a "studio", because we have purchased just such an apartment. The plus is the expansion of space, which is so lacking for the "Khrushchevs". But there is a big minus - due to the lack of a wall between the room and the kitchen, inconveniences arise. They consist in the fact that when one family member decided to cook something, and another wants to relax in a room connected to the kitchen, this creates great discomfort. Therefore, in my opinion, a studio apartment is very inconvenient and not practical.

And in conclusion I want to give advice - before leaving the "familiar" place and radically change your life by changing an apartment, think carefully, because such changes can bring new serious Problems. You should not trade the best for the worst, only as a last resort. And the house should be a fortress, where everyone is comfortable and comfortable.
