What the average Dutchman's home looks like

I think that not every person had the opportunity to visit the Netherlands, let alone live there for some time in the rhythm in which the average Dutchman usually lives. It so happened that I have relatives who currently live in Holland, and to be more specific, in Rotterdam.

It is worth saying that the city is simply beautiful. Compared to Amsterdam, of course, it is calmer. There are sleeping areas, and there are apartment blocks. Many older people live in residential areas. It is worth noting that the Graskruid and Alexander metro stations (yellow line B) are just that.

This area consists of many houses with 2-3 floors (including a room in the attic). More like a block of houses, divided into 7-8 parts.

If we talk specifically about the interior arrangement, then the first floor is the most spacious and most often consists of an entrance hall, bathroom, living room, closet and kitchen with access to a small garden. By the way, there is a small garden in front of the house.

Let's figure it out a bit. A garden for the Dutch is quite an important and integral part of life. It is quite normal for them, I would even say as usual, to eat in the garden even in cold weather. Many people let dogs out into the garden instead of full-fledged walks. Some Dutch women prefer to practice gardening. Therefore, many grow in the garden: gooseberries, blueberries, cucumbers, raspberries, etc. Moreover, I have noticed cherry trees and apple trees several times.

As for the garden in front of the house, it is most often decorated with hydrangeas, figurines, physalis and many other types of flowers, and even trees.

Dutch kitchens, at least in their homes, are often small. And most Dutch people prefer to eat out or cook semi-finished products. As for the living room, this wonderful people spend a lot of time there, because most often it is there that there is a TV and a computer, and a dining table.

The bathroom and the bathroom are usually separated, and, funny, many Dutch people like to hang humorous rhymes where the bathroom is.

As for the second floor, there are more rooms. First, the bathroom. Secondly, a few rooms that many Dutch people equip as a warehouse or just a spare bedroom. And, in fact, the master bedroom.

The third floor is often an attic. In Russia, we are used to the attic = closet. Many people store unnecessary things there. But the Dutch are different. For them, this is a full-fledged floor, where children's rooms are most often located.

As for the apartments. I was in the apartment only a couple of times, I lived mainly in the house. But the apartments are quite expensive. For example, in Rotterdam, the monthly payment for an apartment in the center will be about 500 euros. And this is without water and light. And for a minute, electricity and water are very expensive. Therefore, they are carefully saved. By the way, if we are talking about an apartment in Amsterdam, then the payment will definitely be several times higher.

And so, unfortunately, I have no photographs of the apartment, but at least I will describe it. An average apartment consists of a bathroom, a bathroom, two or three rooms and a kitchen. The kitchen is usually large and spacious. There is a TV, a large dining table, most often a sofa and several chairs. Naturally, there is also everything you need for cooking.

The bathroom in the house or in the apartment never includes a bath. Shower only, plus a sink, dryer and washing machine.

As for the rooms, they are quite spacious and in such apartments they either live in large families, or a couple of friends can unite and live.

And finally, I'll tell you a little about the Dutch themselves.

Many Dutch people are very lazy. What have I noticed? Many of them are often too lazy to change clothes if they go to the store or go for a walk with their dogs. They can go in pajamas and slippers, putting on a jacket, and, funny, no one will pay attention to this, because it is completely normal for them.

Animals, by the way, are also very significant. Any cruelty to animals will result in a € 500 fine. That is why not a single animal in Holland suffers from violence, and, moreover, according to statistics, there are no stray animals in this country.

It is also worth saying that people in Holland are themselves distinguished by their friendliness, a desire to help, to suggest something. Have you ever noticed, flying away on vacation, disgruntled people at the airport who serve you? Surprisingly, in Holland you won't come across this. All employees and ordinary passers-by will happily smile and greet you, even if you don't know each other at all.

The Dutch also have one peculiarity. For all their kindness and understanding, they hate close scrutiny of their property. For example, you should not look into the windows, even if they are open, because you will be considered a boor who, for some unknown reason, considers it possible to stand and look at the decoration of the house. This mainly concerns the sleeping areas, since it is there that you can look into the large spacious window on the ground floor.

Summing up, I would like to say that my experience in the country is extremely positive. Everything is environmentally friendly, people are friendly to you, the prices are moderate, compared to, for example, Germany, the climate is pleasant, and there are a lot of interesting places to visit.
