Why most Americans don't have washing machines at home

Many American films feature scenes in which characters gaze sadly at the spinning drum of a washing machine in a laundry. Fragments of this kind in the cinema are not present to give a lyrical note, but because washing in public laundries is an integral part of the life of Americans.

Why don't the indigenous people wash their homes? After all, washing in a laundry is at least inconvenient, what can we say about hygiene, given the fact that homeless people also wash clothes there.

The reason for this feature of American life is not one, there are a number of them.

In the states, few people live in their own living quarters. As a rule, people rent houses or apartments, so it is impractical for them to buy large household appliances. Americans are quite economical in spending their budget and will not invest in housing that does not belong to them. For the same purpose of saving, landlords do not install washing machines in rented premises. Equipment can fail, flood neighbors, which will impose considerable costs on the owner. Therefore, the main reason for doing laundry is the goal of saving.

Of course, we are not talking about the categorical rejection of household appliances for washing by all Americans. Many modern American homes are equipped with not just a washing machine, but a whole special a room where several machines for productive laundry are located at once for the entire accumulated mountain of things. In addition, drying machines are usually located in such a room, since it is not customary in the states to hang panties fragrant with air conditioning on the balcony.

Americans also do not place a free-standing washing machine in bathrooms and kitchens. In this regard, in order to have a separate room for washing, you need to have the required area. Since real estate in the United States is very expensive, residents also prefer to save it and use it for something more necessary.

Also one of the reasons for doing laundry is for productivity reasons, as there you can load several drums at once with linen of different colors and textures and wash the mountains of accumulated linen.

In New York, in turn, many homes generally have an official ban on the installation of automatic washing machines. This is due to the fact that the bulk of New York City apartment buildings were built before cars were used for home use. Later, in practice, it turned out that the plumbing systems of classic New York houses were not designed for such a load.

On the one hand, for a Russian person, such a way of life seems a little wild, to some extent it can cause too many inconveniences. But on the other hand, how many interesting people can you still meet, how many frank conversations you can talk to the sound of a drum buzzing. This has its own charm.

Therefore, you should not judge someone else's way of life without checking this on your practice.
