Cheapest modular socket, worth or not buying
Tell me, is there a modular socket in your electrical box? No? Do you know what it is for and in what cases it is installed? Then sit down and in this article I will tell you everything.
What is a modular socket
A modular socket is a one-piece plug connector with a standardized DIN-rail mount for installation in a distribution box. As the saying goes, everything is simple and without surprises.
Existing types of modular sockets
There are two types of modular sockets, namely:
- Without grounding contacts. The main advantage of such modular outlets is the fact that they take up only 1 standard space, that is, its width is 17.5 mm. Such sockets are 6A, 10A, 16A.
- With grounding contacts. These modular outlets already take up two and a half modular spaces. Undoubtedly, such sockets are much better, since they are equipped with grounding contacts, which means that (according to the rules) you can connect devices with metal contacts in them.
In addition, these products are distinguishable by the degree of moisture resistance, that is, they have a different IP level.
Note. If the installation of the DIB - socket is carried out in a switchboard inside the room, then the degree of protection IP 20 is sufficient. In the event that the shield is located outdoors or in a room with high humidity, then a modular socket with a degree of protection IP 44 is recommended for installation.
Internal organization
Let's take a look inside this device. And we will disassemble a modular outlet without grounding contacts (by the way, the cheapest one, bought for only 100 rubles).
So, it can be disassembled quite easily and you need to unscrew four screws.
And the following picture appears to our eyes:
As you can see, everything here is extremely simple, even too simple. If the clamping screw even looks quite reliable and "serious", then the receiving part of the fork does not have clamping springs.
This suggests that with frequent use, this contact will be loose and, under significant load, it will get very hot, which can lead to extremely unfavorable consequences (fire).
And riveting contact generally raises very strong doubts in terms of reliability.
There is not even much to consider here.
Is it worth it or not to buy such a device
The product should be installed in its distribution box. Just don't save money and buy the cheapest option (for example, the one discussed above). Better to spend a little more money on purchasing a better product.
