The sun on the windowsill or the yellow Decembrist. How to make an unusual flower bloom
I also have a luxurious winter decoration of a home flower garden, a Decembrist (aka Schlumberger) in a yellow color - this is the result of the labors of breeders, not typical of a plant in the wild.
I chose the Australian variety Golden Cream - a rich, warm yellow-golden hue with pink stamens, and also Golden Orpheus - with wavy petals.
Every year at the end of winter, they delight me with the appearance of buds and there is no secret in this, I do not consider myself a terribly experienced florist! I just follow the basic rules for caring for a Schlumberger, which will make the plant bloom on time.
Schlumberger is a moisture-loving plant, but after the formation of buds, I follow this very carefully and water it as soon as the top layer of the soil dries out.
An increased air humidity is still desirable - but not due to irrigation from a spray bottle, but with the help of bowls of water placed nearby.
Already a month before the expected formation of buds, I always stop making nitrogen-containing fertilizers that contribute to the formation green mass of plants and switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizers - useful for flowering (for example, the production of coloring pigments).
In addition, in the second half of October, Schlumberger moves to the loggia for 3-4 weeks - it is necessary to provide the plant with a temperature of about + 12 ° C. Plus, during this cooling period, I stop watering.
Applying this technique for the first time, I got scared - some of the leaves of the flower withered! But as soon as he returned to the room, he quickly bounced back.
And specifically when the Decembrist returns to room heat, it is important to set the correct daylight hours - no longer than 10 hours a day.
So that it doesn't work longer - I cover it with a box with holes (for air ventilation). After about 1 week, you can return to light.
As soon as buds are formed, it is contraindicated to move the pot with the Decembrist - any movement can provoke their shedding and then flowering will have to wait another year.
And I will also note the factors that actively prevent the flowering of Schlumberger:
· Nutritional deficiency;
· Too rare, insufficient watering;
· Attack of any insect pests;
· Stay in a darkened place;
• staying in too close a pot for many years without transplanting.
That is, in fact, any deviation from the basic rules of content does not allow it to be decorated with yellow buds.
