How to feed the Decembrist in early Spring to make a beautiful plant Blossom
The Decembrist (other names: Schlumberger, Zygocactus, Christmas) is one of my favorite indoor plants because it blooms at a time when most other plants are resting.
A flowering plant in the house always brings joy and good mood. But I noticed that if you do not feed the Decembrist correctly, then you can not wait for flowering.
Therefore, I want to share my experience on how to properly feed this plant in order to achieve its flowering.
Fertilizers of two categories can be used for feeding:
1. Fertilizers of industrial production.
2. Home fertilizers.
The advantage of purchased fertilizers is that they are very easy to use. You just need to dilute the mixture according to the instructions on the package.
The disadvantage is that you have to visit a specialty store and spend some money.
Since the Decembrist is a representative of the cactus family, it is worth using the one that is suitable for cacti. A succulent substrate is also suitable.
In addition, I sometimes use a flowering plant food. Another good option is the ideal universal fertilizer.
Top dressing should be water-soluble and contain phosphorus and potassium. As my personal experience shows, such products are quite effective and can provide abundant and long-term flowering of the plant.
In some cases, I use home fertilizers. I like that it is quick and easy to prepare such a top dressing and you don't have to go anywhere.
To feed the Decembrist, you can use these types of homemade fertilizers:
1. Hydrogen peroxide (1 tablespoon peroxide per 1 liter of water).
2. Sugar (1 tablespoon sugar in 0.5 liters of water).
3. Boric acid (1 g of 0.1% boric acid per 1 liter of water).
4. Tea infusion (brew black tea, let it brew and use as water during watering).
5. Fresh apples (use green sour apples in a ratio of 100 g apples to 0.5 l. water, which must be finely chopped and infused for at least two days).
6. Wood ash (2 tbsp. l. wood ash per 1 liter of water, the solution must be infused for several hours).
You can use one type of fertilizer, or you can alternate. The main thing is not to forget to feed the Decembrist (with purchased or home fertilizers) and the buds of this plant will not crumble, and the flowering will delight for a long time.
