Choosing the Best Place to Plant Honeysuckle Correctly and When is the Best Time to Plant

No matter how the look of my personal plot changes, there will always be a place for honeysuckle on it! This wonderful shrub can serve as a hedge, bear delicious fruits, and attract useful birds to the garden.

Honeysuckle is an unpretentious plant. The main thing is to correctly determine the place of growth and planting time for it.

The PH level can vary between 4.5-7.5, so the choice is really wide in this regard.

In addition, the soil should be loose, easily permeable to air and water, not prone to waterlogging, and means that it is undesirable to plant honeysuckle in a lowland, plus, soil should not lie close to the surface water.

Honeysuckle cannot grow and develop well on nutritious chernozems, as well as on sandy loams and heavy loams.

And theoretically, you can prepare a soil mixture for it yourself in one of two options, taking:

· 1 part of middle (black) peat and humus;

· 1 part of peat (or sand) with humus and 3 parts of sod land.

I have alkaline soil on the site, so I slightly improve it by adding a horse (red) cake to the planting hole for honeysuckle. But if someone's soil is very acidic, it is recommended to mix lime or ash into the bush hole.

Honeysuckle can be planted along fences and walls, that is, in principle, it does not suffer from light shading, but at least from one side it should be illuminated by the sun. You can plant the plant in an open area.

Powerful, highly branched and tenacious root system allows the use of honeysuckle even for strengthening the soil where it crumbles.

Also, the site must be protected from strong winds and drafts, which is explained not simply by the general sensitivity of honeysuckle, but also by the fact that gusts of wind can damage the forming ovaries and ripening berries.

The best time to plant honeysuckle is that period of spring, when the snow has already melted, but the buds have not swelled yet. For the Middle Lane, this is mid-April, in the southern regions - early April and late March, for Siberia and the Leningrad Region - the last decade of April and the very beginning of May.

You can plant honeysuckle in the fall. I have always believed that it is better this way - she will have time to take root, adapt and gain strength for the next season. The right time for autumn planting in the South comes in mid-October, in the Middle Lane - at the end of September, for Siberia and the Leningrad Region - in the first half of September.
