Self-isolation and indoor flowers: π 5 ideas for how to spend time with benefits for your home garden
Everyone is still fiery, but a little alarming fireworks, fellow flower growers!
Some of us spend most of our time in the comfort of our homes.. Someone was forced, like my husband, who was transferred to a remote job. Or my former classmate Tasha, who flew in from Thailand with signs of a cold.
And my neighbor, grandmother Valya, of venerable age and, alas, unenviable health, herself prefers not to risk leaving home. He spends his days at home in chores. And evenings - at the TV with your favorite "serial" channel and knitting things for grandchildren.
Everyone decides for himself how he relates to the forced "confinement". If you also spend time at home, then I want to offer you 5 non-trivial activities with indoor plants.. And you will get pleasure, and the green wards - joy and benefit!
A transplant is not always a routine
Spring is the best time to transplant indoor plants. Look: maybe someone has already grown out of their pot? And everyone else will benefit from fresh soil, without salts and with a new supply of nutritious organic matter, micro- and macroelements!
A memory knot from the author: Young plants 1-3 years old are recommended to be replanted every spring. Their root system grows very quickly, and just as rapidly consumes food from the soil. "Adults" are transplanted every 2-4 years.
And I also want to suggest trying something new simultaneously with the transplant:
if you have young uzambara violets, then I advise you to try to transfer them to wick irrigation. It is noticed that Saintpaulias grow quickly and bloom profusely this way. And the design looks complicated only from the outside.
π Try new soil components. Without exception, all indoor plants love perlite, which makes the soil loose and excellently increases its breathability. This is especially important for tuberous, bulbous and plants with delicate roots (for example, the same violets or campanula ("The Bride and Groom").
And also at your service vermiculite, sphagnum moss, coconut fiber, zeolite and foam balls... You can spend not one hour studying the information, and in a month or two you will be able to independently assess the effectiveness of the know-how.
A hot shower transforms flowers
Free time is a great excuse to finally pamper your plants. A hot shower starts the processes of active growth and development of flowers. All, except for some exceptions: for example, the same violets, due to the strong fluffiness of the leaves, I never wear under the stream.
But others will favorably accept water procedures performed according to simple rules:
- Pallets are not needed! We put the pot directly into a bath or basin.
- The code name "Hot Shower" is somewhat arbitrary. The temperature of the water should be such that the hand can safely endure the heat. Do not be afraid: drops of water, reaching the leaves, will still have time to cool with air.
- I read the advice to cover the soil with foil. But, comrades, I confess. I never do that. My plants getting plentiful tropical rain have not complained yet.
- After the main part of the wet event, wait for the water to drain completely through the drain holes.
- Wait for the leaves of the plant to dry in a warm, draft-free and no direct sunlight.
I consider it my duty to remind you that after a shower, watering will not be required as soon as before. The soil is already fairly saturated with moisture.
Try new remedies
I am sure that every indoor flower lover has his own arsenal of proven feedings and growth stimulants. But every year something new comes out!
You may be interested in stick or spray fertilizer. Or prolonged "Osmokot"
For example, I decided to try to feed Phalaenopsis with succinic acid. Which has many loyal fans and ardent opponents. But, maybe, at least she will make one of my orchids grow and blossom - a true stubborn one...
What would you like to try? It's about time!
Not so much for the good as for the soul
Indoor plants are not just a window sill decoration.
Make your beloved pet the hero of the photo shoot, show your imagination and pick up decorations according to status). Every week I admire the author's pictures in the "Violets" group on VKontakte: real masterpieces with flowers in the lead role.
And you can share the pictures on social networks or save it as a souvenir)
