When is it time to wake up the gladiolus corms - listen to the nature of the plant

And the nature of the plant has laid down the optimal time from the moment the preparation of gladioli corms begins to the solemn planting on the flower bed.

If you just want to plant the bulbs in the ground, then you need to start working with them 20 days before the approximate date. Remember or find out what time gladioli are planted exactly in your region. And do not listen, please, to the bad advice "It is April 10, not earlier and not later!" We, as adults, understand that the climate is different in different regions. And the landing dates, of course, too. The main thing is to build on the date.

From the author: Last year I planted corms for the May holidays. Therefore, it is worth starting to cook them around April 10.

There is also a second way - germination. For the most impatient! If you germinate the corms in advance, then the bloom of gladiolus occurs 10-14 days earlier. And to prepare it, as you might guess, you also need to start ahead of time: 1 month before the expected landing date.

From the author: It is my choice! I do not hesitate to consider myself one of the most impatient gardeners, and I indulge in germinating gladioli on wet sawdust. I take up work, therefore, in the very first days of the spring-like warm April.

The deadlines have been decided. And now - the work checklist:

  • The first point is to remove the old scales. They are no longer corms, and dry clothes can store bacteria, fungi, pest larvae and other vermin. Do we need it?)
  • Now you can consider the planting material properly. Do you have something to work on? Possible places of rot are cut out with a sharp knife, greased with brilliant green and dried. Traces of pests are noticed (for example, gladioli are loved by thrips) - soak them in an insecticide.
  • On the Internet, you can read tips to soak all corms in potassium permanganate, "Maxim" or "Fitosporin", But I confess I am a lazy gardener: I never do anything like this if the planting material is fluffy health. What for?
  • I strongly advise you to throw away completely sick copies without pity. Maybe they will survive after the healing fuss, but they are unlikely to become a strong and lush plant. But there is a non-illusory threat of contamination of other, healthy neighbors.
