Why you shouldn't throw out your old worn-out soft chair-chair. Step by step guide

Carrying out general cleaning of the house, rearrangement, "revision" of things and bumping into a piece of furniture worn out by time (sofa, sideboard, chair ...), many think about its expediency in the interior. And, as a result, they are sent to the garage, to the dacha, or even immediately to the trash can. Is it too radical?

Good afternoon dear friends!

Maybe you should study the object in more detail? Indeed, it is often damaged only externally, while maintaining a strong and reliable skeleton inside! For example, a chair with soft upholstery... The fabric is ripped and stained. It is a very unpleasant sight, and for sure the fate of "flying out" from home is in store for him. But do not rush to get rid of it, because the restored chair can still become a NEW attraction in your interior! And to make it easier for you transform and give a piece of furniture a fresh look, I have prepared a step by step guide.

And you always have time to throw it out!

1.What do you need

? First of all, time, and a little more tools: pliers, a marker, scissors, a stapler, a sewing machine and a screwdriver.

Well, of course, a little bit of consumables and material: foam rubber, staples for a stapler, batting (cotton will be enough), fabric for upholstery (color and texture at your discretion), fabric adhesive and lining for the lower part of the seat (preferably neutral colors).

2.Removing old upholstery. First of all, take photos from different angles in order to remember how the fabric was factory-attached. Then gently start peeling off the fabric from the bottom of the chair. If necessary, disassemble it into parts, not forgetting to mark the connection of the parts and fixing the upholstery.

After all, it's easier to repeat than to invent something new. Try to keep the shape and size of the fabric patches as an example for new upholstery.

3.Replacement of batting and foam rubber. If the deterioration of the old batting (and foam rubber) leaves no chance for further use, then remove and throw them away without regret. And at the same time, inspect the wooden parts (back, seat, legs), maybe it's time to grind, repaint or varnish them.

Then cover the chair with a piece of new batting and pull it around the edges, securing it with a stapler from the inside. Start covering from the backrest, gradually moving towards the seat. Linger on the corners! Since the neat shaping of the batting in them will provide your chair with a shape without ridiculous irregularities.

4.Making new upholstery. Spread the prepared upholstery fabric on a flat surface. Put the original (old) fabric on top and make a pattern on it, adding 5-7 centimeters to each edge.

To restore a chair of a standard shape, you should have 2 such samples: for the back and the seat.

5.Padding the seat. Place the new pattern on the seat, taking into account the marks indicated above. Then fasten a part of the upholstery on one side, gradually pulling and making adjustments to eliminate excess fabric, which will then turn into unaesthetic "waves". Do not spare staples. The fewer gaps between them, the smoother and better the seat will look.

At the end of the process, cut off any excess material.

6.Backrest padding. Carried out in the same way as the seat upholstery. And for a more comfortable and secure fit, add a grip strip around the rear of the backrest. In hard-to-reach places where you could not crawl with a stapler, use fabric glue.

If it was necessary to completely disassemble the chair, then after this stage it can be reassembled.

7.Completion of the "project". Take measurements of the bottom of the chair and prepare a pad of the size you need. Turn the chair upside down and attach the fabric, disguising all the unsightly elements under it. Make sure the fabric is snug and then secure with staples.

EVERYTHING, a new attraction for your interior is ready!
