Why Turkish apartments have large balconies. And why is there a crane on the balcony
All the peculiarities of housing in Turkey that are unusual for our eyes are due to the way of life in this country, its traditions and customs. One of these features is the large, spacious balconies.
The balconies in Turkish apartments are really very spacious. A balcony or terrace area of 20-40 square meters is not uncommon in Turkey! In addition, unlike our balconies and loggias, this is a full-fledged living space, not a warehouse for old or rarely used things.
Often there are exits from several rooms to the balcony. In Turkey, by the way, apartments occupying an entire floor of a residential building (or even two) are widespread. In this case, the balcony can surround several sides of the apartment.
So why do Turks love spacious balconies so much? But because the Turkish balcony is a real living room. After all, it is on the balconies that the owners receive guests, family breakfasts, tea drinking, relaxation with watching TV, in general, gatherings of all kinds are held here. Owners can also fry kebabs on their balconies: very often a chimney-chimney passes through the balconies on all floors of a residential building, and there is a stove on each balcony. True, this applies more to old buildings. In modern homes, there are no stoves and chimneys, but this is not a reason to give up your habits, and very often residents use portable electric barbecues.
As for the arrangement of balconies, they are always equipped with ceiling lights and sockets. Often there is also a built-in ceiling curtain rod for curtains, which helps to escape the heat. There are also drain grooves on the balconies. And very often taps. Hoses are connected to the hostess's taps and the floor on the balcony is washed directly from them. If there is still no tap, then to wash the floor it is simply filled with water from buckets.
Here, on the balconies, the hostesses wash, clean and dry their numerous carpets (fortunately, there is a tap and a drain!).
Whether the balcony is glazed or not and how it is furnished depends on the preferences of the owners, and on the climate, because in Turkey it is quite heterogeneous. Therefore, on some balconies you can see garden swings, and on others heating batteries.
Of course, in our country there are comfortable balconies where the owners are happy to while away the time, relax over a cup of tea or just enjoying the views, sitting in a comfortable chair, but, unlike Turkey, this is rather an exception to rules.
So who is in favor of throwing all the trash from their balcony and turning it into a cozy room? I am for!
