Seedlings not growing? I tell you how to give a "magic pendel" and not miss the harvest
Hello comrades, vegetable growers and flower growers!
Sometimes seedlings, which seem to have sprung up briskly, stand still, rooted to the spot. Others have already grown a bunch of leaves, but does not want to grow her own. Familiar - read to the end! I will write why this is happening and how to fix an unpleasant situation that threatens with a distant harvest and, in the worst case, the death of the grown plantings.
The universe itself is invented like this: young plants are supposed to actively develop in order to continue their kind. But in working with seedlings, pitfalls often surface - factors that stop growth.
If you want to save the landing, take action. Don't ignore the situation until it gets too far. As soon as the grower finds and removes the pitfalls, and the seedlings receive favorable conditions, young plants will take up their minds and quickly grow.
Is it light for you, girl?
If the seedlings are also stretched out, as in the photo above, - 90%, that is because of poor lighting. Without enough sun rays or a lamp, seedlings will not develop as they should.
With the confident movement of Nature towards summer (an increase in the length of daylight hours and the activity of the sun), the problem disappears. But, if your seedlings still do not want to develop, there can be only one plan of action: a dive to the cotyledons should be combined with an increase in lighting.. Maybe it's worth finding a place for the seedlings on a sunnier windowsill?
From the author: Even now, the direct rays of the sun can burn tender young plants. Therefore, when choosing southern windowsills, take care of shading during peak hours.
The most unpleasant thing
The worst thing that can happen to seedlings is a black leg. Moreover, the problem is not always noticeable. Pull out 1 frozen seedling and check for a disturbing picture.
On the Internet, you will find many recipes on how to save seedlings from the notorious infection. But I will be honest with you: I have never managed to grow something sensible from patients. Therefore, I prefer not even to waste time and send the "black legs" to the trash bin. Let with annoyance, but without regret.
About watering and temperature
Excess watering inhibits the growth of seedlings and this is a fact. It is a mistake to think that constantly wet soil is beneficial. The sticky earth does not allow the roots to breathe normally. It is important here to learn how to choose the golden mean.
Too high and too low temperature confuse seedlings and make them stand still. Each culture has its own preferences: it is worth studying the information and trying to stick to it.
For example, a heat-loving bell pepper will refuse to grow if it is below 18 ° C.
Let me remind you that even if the room is +25 ° C, then it is much colder on the windowsill.
"Just look at what it grows in!"
On social media, I see many requests for advice on how to get seedlings to grow. People post photos of the problem. And very often the reason for an unattractive picture is immediately apparent: the earth is covered with a crust.
Young seedlings have very thin roots. And on them, for a minute, the development of plants depends. The root system simply cannot break through a clod of earth.
In this case, the problem is simple to solve:
- Loosen the crust immediately with a toothpick. And as soon as possible:
- Transplant seedlings into aerial soil. For example, in high-quality high-moor peat, universal soil with the addition of leavening agents (perlite, vermiculite, and even the same sand).
- In the future, he is more attentive to the characteristics of the seedling substrate.
