An easy way to repair punctured polypropylene pipes from an experienced plumber. Everyone should know this method
To work, you will need a soldering iron for propylene pipes. True, the soldering iron only heats the end of the pipe in order to put a fitting on it. And here the breakdown is somewhere in the middle section of the pipe. There are three ways to eliminate such a breakdown. If a breakdown has formed on a working water supply, then you must first turn off the water and dry the pipe section. This can be done with a regular hair dryer.
Method one.
This method is for small holes in a pipe that is walled up. Such a pipe breakdown can occur as a result of drilling a wall without taking into account the location of utilities. First, the edges of the breakdown are cleaned with a knife from burrs and excess sagging. Then you need a soldering iron
If there are no such nozzles on sale, you will have to be smart, find a suitable material for this and make a nozzle with your own hands. For example, a spindle from spinning machines is suitable for making a nozzle. This nozzle will heat the hole.
We cut a strip from an unnecessary piece of pipe.
And we undermine a little like a pencil, or a chopstick. Only the angle should not be too sharp, and the insert should fit snugly into the punched hole of the heated pipe. Then we heat this piece in a soldering iron.
We insert the softened chopstick into the punched hole and hold until the plastic hardens. Then cut off the excess with a knife or wire cutters.
Method two
For pipes that are embedded in the wall and where manipulation is extremely limited, I suggest making a small fixture out of a pipe clamp. First, disassemble the clamp:
- unscrew the screws from it;
- remove the rubber bands;
- put all the details aside. Someday they will come in handy for other crafts.
For work, we need that part of the clamp on which the nut is welded.
It is necessary to cut off the ears from this part, and bend the rounded part of the clamp along the diameter of the pipe. It is good if the household has a piece of steel pipe. On it with a hammer it will be possible to make a perfect semicircle. The edges of the fixture can be sharpened so as not to scratch your hands and sanded with sandpaper.
And we press it to the place of damage.
And while the pipe is heating up, we are preparing a “patch”.
To do this, you need to cut one collar first along the length, and then into two half rings.
One half-ring is firmly pressed against the molten pipe and held until the plastic cools and hardens. If possible, you can wrap this half-ring with electrical tape so that it does not come off in the event of a water hammer.
Method three
This way is easier. And ideal for sealing such a hole. It is necessary to cut the pipe along the breakdown line, heat the ends of the pipe and put a connecting collar on them. But this method is only acceptable for pipes that are in the process of installation, or pass openly along the wall, not embedded inside.
When performing work in any of the three ways, it is necessary to check the result for leaks. If everything is done correctly and made sufficiently tight, there should be no leaks.
