The largest and frost-resistant varieties of Sweet cherry, which are required on the site for any Summer resident
Refined cherries have always grown in our garden and it seems that there were more varieties of it than peaches, apples and pears combined! Due to the peculiarities of the local climate, I give preference to frost-resistant varieties.
And I want to share my observations about which of them differ and other valuable characteristics. In particular - a combination of large-fruited and unpretentious.
In a word, I have my own top cherry varieties, which I recommend to plant to absolutely all the familiar summer residents!
Ovstuzhenka
A relatively young variety. One tree brings up to 75 kg, and the harvest consists of amazingly sweet berries weighing 4-7 g with tiny bones.
Ovstuzhenka belongs to self-fertile varieties - since pollination can occur within one tree and almost 90% of the ovaries successfully mature to the end, regardless of summer weather conditions. And in winter, interestingly, the variety survives even at -45 ° C.
Sadko
This variety does not belong to self-fertile, but this is more than offset by resistance to spring cold snaps, even by a heavy gusty wind with heavy rainfall. The yield is impressive - up to 85 kg per tree, plus, all of it ripens almost simultaneously.
Sadko berries are very tasty and juicy, weighing 6-8 g, perfect for preservation. The best pollinating varieties are Odrinka and Ovstuzhenka.
Jealous
A short tree needs to form a pyramidal crown. The berries of this variety ripen large only in the most favorable years - 6-7 g, and so are small, weighing only 4-5 g.
But on the other hand, they have no equal in aroma, they can be stored for several weeks poured into boxes. Another expressive plus of the variety is the ability to withstand a cold snap to -6 ° C without loss during flowering.
Rossosh gold
A yellow-fruited variety with berries weighing 7-9 g, pleasant sourness prevails in the taste. Flower buds tolerate even prolonged recurrent frosts normally.
I also want to note that this variety is one of the most unpretentious, it can grow almost wild on the site.
Lena
The tree has a compact oval crown and high immunity to the main diseases of the culture. The harvest ripens by the end of July. The berries are elegant - almost black on the outside and with burgundy pulp, weigh 7-8 g.
Entry into fruiting, provided that a seedling is planted at the age of 2 years, can be expected unusually early for frost-resistant varieties - already by 3 years.
