Now the attention of the whole planet is focused on the fight against coronavirus. The pandemic has reached an impressive scale and the main task of mankind has become the search for drugs, vaccines and means of protection against a deadly infection. We, of course, are not microbiologists, but we can advise you something to protect your home. See instructions on how to assemble an antibacterial lamp for indoor disinfection.

What is an antibacterial lamp and how does it affect the coronavirus

Bactericidal (quartz) emitters are used for disinfection of air and surfaces in a room, disinfection of water, sterilization of medical instruments. They destroy most viruses and microorganisms.

A quartz lamp is a source of UV rays with a wavelength of 205 nm to 315 nm. Long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation destroys the structure of bacteria and viruses, breaking bonds in DNA, which leads to their death. Ultraviolet radiation will kill the virus, including the coronavirus (Covid-19), in the indoor air.

DRL lamp device

What you need to make an antibacterial lamp at home

  • For this device, first of all, an ultraviolet source is needed - a quartz lamp. The most affordable is DRL-250, which is used for street lighting. DRL-250 price ranges from 140 to 600 rubles.
  • You will need a 125 or 250 W choke. The choke price is from 200 rubles for a used one, up to 1250 for a new one. It is not a shortage and you can easily buy it.
  • And you also need a ceramic E40 base chuck, which can be bought at a price of 30 to 100 rubles.
  • You also need: wire; fork; a piece of plywood, plastic or plexiglass measuring 25 * 25 cm; self-tapping screws, metal strip; auxiliary tools. All this can be found on the farm.

How to assemble the device

First of all, you need to securely attach the cartridge to the platform, which will serve as plywood, plastic, a piece of chipboard. The way the cartridge is mounted will depend on its design. Some models already have a fastening strip, and for some you can make it yourself from a metal strip. This is not a problem. And also a choke is attached to the platform.

The circuit is assembled very simply - one wire goes to the cartridge directly from the socket, the second through the choke. There is nothing complicated here, you just need to follow the elementary rules of electrical safety.

Next, we turn to the lamp - you need to remove the bulb from it. It's not as difficult as it sounds. The lamp is wrapped in fabric for a secure hold and an incision is made at the junction of the glass with the base with a glass cutter. You need to gently knock on the cut with a metal object until the glass cracks. The bulb is removed and exposes the quartz arc lamp, which is the source of UV radiation.

After all the operations, it remains to screw the "modernized lamp" into the socket and the device is ready! We check, turn on and use.

Emitter assembly

How to use an antibacterial device, safety precautions

The first and most important rule is to understand that this device is an open-type emitter and can only be used in the absence of people, pets, and indoor plants. Ultraviolet light is dangerous not only for viruses and bacteria, but also for humans! And also from UV exposure, wallpaper can fade or paint and furniture fade.

Antibacterial lamp in protective casing

UV disinfection can be carried out for 0.5–1 hours in each room. The use of the device is not limited only to the home, disinfection can be carried out in chicken coops, pigsties, cowsheds, rabbitries.

If you liked the material - support it with a like and we will tell you how to make a closed quartz circulator disinfector for your home. Tell us what methods you use to fight viruses.
