A neighbor taught me how to process tomato seedlings with iodine. The result is pleasing! Exact instruction
Fiery fireworks, comrades vegetable growers!
Want to grow healthy seedlings tomatoes, resistant to the scourge of tomatoes - damned phytophthora? Use iodine! This trick was taught to me by my neighbor - Aunt Lyuba, and I brought the technology with annual experience to perfection precise recommendations.
"How much has been written about this iodine ..."
Now on the Internet, mentions about the treatment of seedlings with iodine can be found almost every day. But I heard about the method a few years ago from my flatmate - from Aunt Lyuba. A pleasant woman in a mentoring tone told me all the subtleties of gardening skills, which she herself had learned.
- Seedlings, when she has 4 carved leaves, be sure to spray with iodine. Just spread it a little bit, otherwise the leaves will burn
Interesting instruction, isn't it?
If you look at it, a whole chain of chemical elements plays an important role in the life of a plant. We remember about nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, and sometimes we undeservedly forget about iodine.
But I cannot even call spraying tomato seedlings with iodine a top dressing. Rather, it is processing, stimulating plant immunity to late blight:
Phytophthora is a disease caused by a fungus of the genus Phytophthora infestans, which affects mostly nightshade, and some other cultivated plants, such as strawberries or cucumbers (iplants.ru)
That is, as follows from the description, just tomatoes are most susceptible to infection! And eggplant is another popular nightshade, so the recipe is applicable to them.
And I could not take my first harvest to the end just because of late blight. It was a shame to tears! Whoever faced, I think, will easily understand my feelings... Perhaps that is why I decided to grab the recipe of an experienced neighbor.
And here's what came of it:
In recent years, I hardly know what late blight is. I cannot say that it is only a matter of iodine processing of seedlings.
Over time, I began not only to water and feed my plantings, but to engage in complete prevention of diseases and pests before the problem makes itself felt π And iodine treatment is perhaps a part of a successful set of measures. But I do it every year and refuse to spray not going to. At least for complacency π
Want to try? Let me emphasize that the key phrase in Aunt Lyuba's parting words was "Just spread it a little bit, otherwise the leaves will burn". The iodine solution is very strong and burning, so it is better to work with it very carefully π
For you, I will write my own recipe that is healthy and safe:
How to feed tomato seedlings with iodine: a recipe from "Secrets of a Garden and a Summer Cottage". No "by eye" and "droplets per liter" !!!
Instead of having a beneficial effect, it was still not enough to spoil the lovingly grown seedlings with too strong iodine solution... Therefore, I advise you to avoid the recommendations "1 drop per 1 liter of water". Droplet it can turn out different, including dangerously too large.
I made sure that the safe and optimal dosage is 0.5 ml per 1 liter of water. It is easy to measure with a syringe (with a capacity of 1 ml "insulin" or 2 ml). Pour into a spray bottle and thoroughly spray the tomato seedlings π± It is better to do this in the evening, when direct sunlight will be excluded from the leaves, until the composition is completely dry.
Give it a try - I hope you see the same result as I did! Are you planting tomatoes and was the article helpful? Please put "Thumbs up" in response, my good β€ Thank you. I recommend reading about another mega-useful seedling feeding: β 1 compulsory feeding of any seedlings: it's disgraceful, but I am happy every year
