What does the housing of a local Sharm el Sheikh look like?

Sharm El Sheikh is a favorite resort of many citizens of the post-Soviet space, characterized by hot climate at any time of the year, lack of rainfall, the variety of the underwater world and pleasant prices for tourists. How is life here for the local population, and in what conditions do the Egyptians live?

Charm is a relatively young city. Therefore, in this place it is rare to find Egyptians who have lived in the city for more than 10-12 years.

There are no multi-storey buildings in Sharm el-Sheikh, which are present in sufficient quantity in another resort city - Hurghada. Initially, the government was interested in improving the territory and increasing the length of the city in width, not height. Therefore, both housing for the local population and buildings on the territory of hotels usually do not exceed 2 floors. Sometimes you can find three-story buildings, but they are simply built at a lower altitude above sea level, the roof of the last floor of such a three-story building will be on a par with two-story houses

Compounds for the local population are usually a studio (room combined with a kitchen) or 1 - 2 bedrooms and a studio. The kitchen is almost never a separate room, but is combined with the living room. It is noteworthy that in almost all buildings that are not a place for tourists to rest, there is no ventilation system, both near the stove and in the bathroom. Air access and circulation is provided through the window. Sometimes a special additional window can be made in the bathroom, the glass of which is painted over with paint, and it is opened for constant air access.

Toilet and bathroom are always combined. A bath is rarely found here due to the limited space. As a rule, the bathroom has a shower and toilet. A boiler is installed in absolutely all buildings, which provides hot water. In the bathroom floor there is a large sewer hole for water drainage. Here, when cleaning, even the entire room, the Egyptians simply roll and push the water spilled onto the floor with a rubber mop.

Gas is only found in certain compounds. The local population predominantly uses electric mini ovens or uses gas cylinders that are connected to the stove.

Absolutely all apartments have shutters or curtains that block out the sun's rays and ensure absolute darkness. Not a single Egyptian, unlike a European, can imagine how one can fall asleep when the window is curtained only with tulle or blinds that let in light.

Many buildings do not have washing machines or drying places. Here, a fairly common phenomenon is to hand over clothes for washing to the laundry, which are affordable, as a rule, even to the poor. Laundry services are provided to hotel staff free of charge; they can return both overalls and personal belongings here.
