How to lay tiles on OSB, plywood, DSP. Can tiles be glued to tiles? (The best way)
Experts recommend laying the tiles on a carefully leveled surface. To level the base, different materials are used: plywood, OSB, DSP, chipboard, etc. Let's talk about laying tiles on different substrates and whether it is possible to glue tiles to tiles.
OSB
This material consists of several layers of compressed chips. OSB tiles should not be installed - this is not the best base for ceramic tiles.
However, with the right preparation, anything is possible. No special processing OSB is deformed by moisture. Therefore, the surface is pre-primed, and then polished. If the slabs are varnished, then the coating is removed with medium-grained sandpaper. In this case, do not use ordinary glue (the tile will fall off). Silicone aquarium sealant works well.
There is such an option: to wind sheets of gypsum fiber board or glass magnesite on the OSB. After that, you can glue the tiles with ordinary glue.
DSP
Better solution. DSP boards have a flat surface, strength, durable, environmentally friendly, waterproof. Cons: fragility, heavy weight, cost. Light tiles can be glued to the DSP, otherwise the flooring may fail over time.
In order for the tile to adhere better to the cement-bonded particle board, you need to lay a plaster mesh on the plates and walk with a primer on the wood. Then cement glue is applied. Add special to the glue solution. plasticizers for better adhesion.
Plywood
The most popular option for leveling the surface. Plywood is not expensive, it is easy to work with, it is quite strong material. If the plywood is on logs, then the sheet thickness should be from 30 mm.
If the thickness of the sheets is insufficient, the surface is reinforced with another layer of plywood. The sheets are glued together and additionally fastened with self-tapping screws.
A plastic masking net is attached to the plywood with nails or staples. Then comes the primer (several layers). Next comes the laying of tiles. No cement glue is used. Polyurethane tile adhesive is suitable. You can use liquid nails - the tile holds tight.
Can i lay tiles on tiles?
Most often this is done on the floor. Some make notches on the old tiles with a grinder, remove the glaze layer, and then glue the tiles. But this method is dusty and laborious.
The best way is to prime the surface with concrete contact and then glue the tiles onto tile adhesive. Or such an option - putty glue like Glims RealFix or HiFix on the surface of the old tile. And then put a new one.
