How and when to plant red beets with seeds in the ground.
Beets are not only a delicious vegetable, but also very healthy. A big plus is the fact that vitamins and other microelements are preserved in beets even when cooked.
Red beets are used in a wide variety of dishes and are eaten both raw and cooked. But in order to grow a sufficient number of root crops, you need to know some of the rules for planting this vegetable.
An important point is the choice of soil that will be suitable for growing red beets. The vegetable does not like acidic soil. In the fall, the necessary fertilizers should be applied so that in the spring it would be possible to plant immediately. Fresh manure is applied in the fall so that it has time to rot. Beets prefer loose soil. If the earth is dense, it is worthwhile to loosen it with a hoe more often.
Beet planting dates must be observed. It all depends on the region in which you live. The main thing is that the soil warms up to at least 10 degrees. Even small frosts, which often occur in early spring, are not terrible for seeds in a heated ground. If you want an early harvest of beets, then you can cover the bed with a film: the soil will warm up faster and you can plant the root crop earlier.
The technique of sowing seeds is as follows: rows up to 4 cm deep, shed with water and let it soak, and then the seeds are laid and covered with earth. The distance between the rows should be at least 20 cm, and between the seeds 10 cm. But, if you have enough seeds, then you can sow them thicker. It should be borne in mind that several shoots are obtained from one seed. In this case, when the seeds sprout, they should be broken, removing weaker shoots. If you want small roots, leave less space between them.
Weeding and watering the plants is an important part of grooming. If it rains at least once a week and it is not very hot outside, there is no need to water the beets.
