How to clean a chimney without climbing on the roof + an effective old-fashioned way

If there is stove heating, then sooner or later you have to clean the chimney from soot. Some have a fireplace, there is a stove in the bathhouse, garage, private house. The chimney stays clean for a long time when using dry wood with a low resin content.

The chimney quickly clogs up if you burn household waste in the oven (plastic bottles, cloth, cellophane, etc.). As a result, the thrust decreases, the room becomes smoky.

If it is possible to heat with aspen or alder wood, then there will be no soot. The logs burn with a hot flame. The soot gradually disappears in the chimney. However, if there is a lot of soot, then the pipe should be cleaned first. Carbon deposits can ignite and fly out of the pipe, falling on various objects.

There is a way to clean the soot mechanically (using a brush). If there is no possibility or desire to climb on the roof, then ruffs on special flexible rods are sold.

Some have adapted to make do-it-yourself brushes from an ordinary plastic 1.5 or 2 liter bottle. Cut off the lower part, make a ruff from the second half.

Cut into strips and fold them. Then you need a hose. Put the neck of the bottle on the hose and start cleaning from the top or bottom. Most of the soot falls into the bottle.

It also helps salt. Salt fights fresh carbon build-up. The chimney becomes clogged more slowly. Salt is used mainly for prevention. If there is a lot of soot, salt will not help.

Don't throw away potato skins. Heat the stove and throw dry cleaners in there (directly on the wood). Burning starch destroys, crushes deposits and soot, forcing it to fly into the pipe. This is the most effective method for cleaning without climbing on the roof.
