Here's what kind of basement can be built from concrete slabs with the proper approach.
The basement is ideal for storing food. If you don't have one, try to build it yourself. It's not as difficult as it sounds. For the construction of the basement, concrete slabs will be needed, as well as a calculation of dimensions. Remember that the height of the groundwater passage and the choice of building materials are equally important. All construction work is best done in summer.
Choosing a location for the basement
First of all, you need to decide on the location of the future basement and develop its design. Better to put a basement facade to prevent rain and water from entering. Regardless of which building materials you use, it is necessary to provide moisture resistance, water resistance and ventilation to ensure a high quality microclimate. If you plan to use the basement without natural light, then you need to be connected to the network. Build a basement with your own hands When starting to dig a hole, you can make your task easier using an excavator. If finances are limited, you can dig it up manually.
Its depth should not be less than the height of a person, i.e. about 2.5 m, taking into account the height of the foundation. After digging a hole, a foundation should be installed below. You can use a layer of debris, broken bricks or stones, pour molten bitumen. In general, the height of the foundation will be 50 cm. This is done around the entire perimeter of the filed. If you put the slab on its edge on a bare floor, then over time, uneven soil settling will occur, which will lead to disastrous results.
The next step is to install the walls. In our case, these are concrete slabs with a thickness of 20-25 cm. If desired, you can use cement and formwork, bricks, stone. However, this is a long process and the concrete slabs are installed in one working day. It is better to order the crane in advance, as we did. He arrived 4 hours later, and making the workers wait is an ignoble thing. The installed slabs are supported by wooden beams to prevent them from collapsing.
This is done until the roof is installed, also from concrete slabs. After that, there is no need to worry about collapse, since the weight of the monolith gnaws the side plates into the fresh foundation. After leveling the slabs with a crane, each slab is welded to each other along the entire length of the rib. This will add reliability to the design. It should be noted that the plates are required with an iron edging so that welding can be used.
Depending on the developed design, it is necessary to arrange the entrance. It could be a hole in the roof or a full entrance with a staircase down. In our version, this is a full-fledged staircase.
In order to maintain the optimum temperature in the basement at any time of the year, it is necessary to install doors. In this version, we did not bother, and built wooden doors.
At the final stage, the connection to electricity, the installation of racks and partitions for raw materials is performed. It is also necessary to provide for several compartments for products that require special storage conditions. Now you know the most important aspects when building a basement. The basement floor is not filled with anything, otherwise you will never get rid of the mold. In the middle of the basement, a beam was installed for greater reliability, but this is not necessary.
The walls have not yet been finished from the inside, but are still ahead. Perhaps you will have a version of bricks, but I would like to know what you think about this method of concrete slabs.
