From a Dream to Your Own Home: The Story of a Female Construction Site Part 1 Site

What motivates people to move out of town? Probably, at the first stage, it is a desire to leave an unfriendly dusty city in order to retire from the hustle and bustle, to relax. Further, you fall in love with beauty, purity and nature. And only then comes the realization that this is where your home is and that this place is the most fertile ground for your roots. Participant FORUMHOUSE under the nickname ST_00 told her story of moving to the village. What she did and how she succumbed to the construction - read on.

In the beginning there was a thought

I'll start the story from the very moment when the ephemeral dream of having my own wooden house settled in my head. In 2009, fate threw me to work in one completely unremarkable village. The most ordinary village with its own disadvantages and advantages (there are more of the first) and, at that time, it was absolutely unattractive place for me.

That is, it was not love at first sight. In that year, the crisis dragged on in the country and it was difficult for young specialists to find work: the move to the cultural capital of St. Petersburg had to be postponed indefinitely. And in the village they asked to stay for another year.

And this year has changed everything, as if eyes opened. It began to seem that the sky in the village is blue, and the grass is greener, and the sun is warmer, and the air is cleaner. It was then that the first modest thought crept in: shouldn't I settle here, shouldn't I put down roots???

As soon as the thought appears, even the most modest one, it immediately begins to grow, grow, firmly rooting in the head, and now, it is no longer so modest, but quite such a big dream. Since 2010, I have been actively looking for land for construction.

Transformation of thought into a real plot

Acquisition of a site is a very responsible business. Throughout autumn and winter, and spring, the most fantastic ideas, projects of the future house have been wandering in my head. And each new fantasy was cooler than the previous one.

And so, in 2017, I manage to rent a plot of 12 acres with encumbrances, despite all the persuasions from relatives and friends. The location of the site is such that no one can close the beautiful view of the sunset and, probably, this fact became decisive for me.

Any business starts with cleaning

I got into it only on June 18, 2018 - this is the first day of vacation. How such a great omission happened that the site is heavily overgrown with grass - I can't imagine. It turned out to be a very difficult task to mow everything with a line trimmer, I had to ask the tractor-mower to do it, and then, which did not finish the first one, they finished it off with a trimmer-knife.

It was necessary to mow the site in order to see all the irregularities and depressions of the site. Previously, the site was simply overgrown, then mountains of sand and clay were shoveled there. This was done by the neighbors who were under construction, and I wanted to level everything and bring it into a noble look. For this I ordered a land car and hired a grader. There weren't many cars, of course, but for now, I decided, that's enough.

Fence

Fence: this was my second event according to my plan. I didn't want to make a capital fence yet, but it had to be done. Having calculated all the options, I leaned towards the 50 * 50 bars. It was planned to deepen them by a meter and simply cover them with sand and earth, but later practice showed that all this was "bullshit".

My further solutions:

• Leave the bars 50 * 50, but fill them with sand concrete;
• Buy 100 * 100 bars and alternate with 50 * 50 bars (double), pouring also sand concrete, and in places where reinforcement is needed, put only 100 * 100.

At the end of this stage, I decided to slow down a little, as the vacation season was approaching and I really wanted to relax. The next thing I did was to close the fence. Read on.
