Why don't I water the seeds after sowing. And I advise you not to do this
What could be more natural than sowing seeds and watering the earth with them? It seems that this has been done at all times! After all, water for plants is life itself. But in fact, this is a mistake!
For a long time I could not understand what the problem was - why, by planting the best varieties and adhering to the rules of agricultural technology, I do not get an excellent rich harvest? Why is the germination rate of fresh seeds so low, and the seedlings wither, instead of developing?
And only turning to serious, scientific botanical literature, I found the answers!
The fact is that although germination is a natural activity for seeds, it is also a kind of stress for plants. Farmers "help" them by preparing the site - by digging and loosening.
But at the very beginning, a tiny sprout needs to break through the thickness of the earth to the sun. What happens when it is watered after sowing? It is compacted, in fact, its particles stick together and the seeds are "sealed" in the planting grooves or pits.
In addition, watering prevents air and oxygen from reaching the seeds and the sprouts that hatch from them. And it has been scientifically proven that the absence of normal "breathing" is dangerous even for the root system of adult plants.
Of course, after some time the substrate will dry out, but the moment will be missed. And it doesn't matter how much seed germination of a particular culture and variety is normally expected - 1 day or 2 weeks. The seeds of all plants begin to "wake up" from the moment they are sown.
Especially if the day before they were treated with a growth stimulant.
But all of the above does not mean that seeds can and should germinate in soil as dry as the sands of the Sahara. It must be watered, but - half an hour before sowing the seeds.
Based on my own experience, I recommend using warm, even hot, water for this. In addition to saturating the seeds with moisture, it will also warm the earth, which is definitely a favorable condition for seed germination.
But there are still seeds that are laid out on the surface of the soil, without deepening, sometimes only slightly sprinkling it with dry and fine, like dust, earth.
You still need to moisturize them. But not with ordinary watering, but irrigating a little from a spray bottle. It certainly won't hurt them!
Guided by these simple rules, I finally learned how to properly sow seeds of cultivated plants and get strong, healthy seedlings.
