What I Don't Recommend When Planting Garlic If You Want A Good Harvest
Garlic is a rather capricious plant. It is either too dry or too humid. Now it is dark, then the sun is hot. To grow a decent harvest, you need to know well the agricultural techniques of garlic.
Newbies do a lot of wrong things when growing it. I will tell you the most popular and unacceptable mistakes that can lead to the death of the crop.
Poor planting material
Do not neglect the selection of seeds! What seeds you take - you will get such a harvest. First, it is important to sort out the cloves. Avoid planting rotten, small and flabby seeds.
Good teeth should be firm, with intact skin and no damage. Then the seeds need to be prepared. You can soak them for a couple of hours in a solution of salt or potassium permanganate.
This will help kill surface pathogens and keep the teeth from rotting.
Improper soil preparation
Inexperienced gardeners plant garlic in unprepared soil. And this is fraught with loss of harvest! Garlic cloves are a great treat for a variety of worms and larvae. Garlic is especially spoiled by onion flies.
Therefore, the soil must be prepared in such a way as to eliminate all pests. I spill the soil with boiling water and turpentine. The solution I make is 0.5 liters of turpentine per 10 liters of boiling water. I spill the garden well. Seeds can be planted the next day.
Wrong watering regime
This is one of the most common mistakes beginner gardeners make when growing garlic. Some summer residents believe that the more moisture, the juicier the garlic will be. This is fundamentally wrong!
Excessive moisture will cause the development of diseases. And drought will lead to drying out of the head. What to do? It's simple, you need to find a balance. I water the garlic separately from other vegetables and plants. I always check the moisture content of the soil before watering.
If the ground is wet or rain is foreseen, then there is no need for watering. But if the soil is dry, then it is necessary to shed it.
Extra land
Inexperienced gardeners think that when growing garlic, you can limit yourself to watering and weeding. No matter how it is. It is necessary to make another important event, which not everyone knows about.
This is the removal of excess land from the garden. For garlic to be large and intact pests, it must be halfway out of the ground. Excess land just needs to be removed, and after harvesting it can be poured back onto the garden bed.
In general, to grow a decent crop, do not make the mistakes listed above.
