Abu Dhabi's largest solar plant will generate the world's cheapest green electricity
A conglomerate of two global energy companies, namely the French EDF and Chinese Jinko solar offered the lowest price in the tender for participation in the project AI Dhafra by 2 gigawatts.
According to the plan, the solar station should be launched in the middle 2022 year and will become the largest solar energy project worldwide with the cheapest cost per kW.
So the state energy company Abu Dhabi (AD Power), came forward with confirmation that a conglomerate of two global energy companies has submitted an application and is now in the process of negotiating a thirty-year contract for the purchase of electricity.
The price of one kilowatt will be 1.35 cents, which is an absolute world record.
Why electricity prices are so low in the Middle East
If you take a closer look at the East, then in Dubai, sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum's sunny park, the current capacity of which is 900 megawatts, sells electricity at 1.7 cents per kilowatt.
In Qatar, the price per kilowatt is even lower at 1.6 cents.
A quite reasonable question may arise: "Why is there such a low price for green electricity in the East?
The thing is that several factors have developed here at once:
- The region has huge solar resources in the form of sunny and cloudless days.
- Significant flat and free areas.
- Cheap financing and significant subsidies for the rental, construction and maintenance of the erected installations from local states.
These and many other factors form such a low cost per kilowatt of energy produced.
Why all this is needed
The commissioning of such huge solar stations will reduce the annual emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by 3.6 million tons, which corresponds to the removal of 720,000 cars from the roads. This means that the greenhouse effect will decrease and the process of global warming will slow down.
