When tomato seedlings are planted in the soil in open ground or in a greenhouse, the lower leaves begin to turn yellow. As a rule, it is harmless if a seemingly healthy, green mass is growing at the top.
If the seedlings grew on a windowsill, veranda, balcony, then they did not receive direct sunlight (ultraviolet radiation). When planted in a permanent place, the leaves, which began to turn yellow, have already worked out, performed their function. Old leaves simply do not adapt well to new conditions on the street or greenhouse.
Therefore, they can be removed with scissors or secateurs when new, green leaves appear. At the same time, there is a rule that you cannot delete more than 3 sheets at a time.
At least 5-6 true leaves should remain on the plant. This amount is enough for the normal development and growth of tomato bushes in the future.
You can also find sunburn on the leaves. Partially, some parts of the leaf acquire a brown tint, they dry out. Most often this happens if the plants were not pre-tempered, were not taken out into the street before planting in the ground, and immediately they were planted in the ground in a greenhouse or exhaust gas.
These sunburns can occur with improper watering, when drops fall on the plants, they act as a magnifying glass. Therefore, the drops burn parts of the leaves. Watering must be carried out at the root.
You need to sound the alarm only if the top turns yellow. Perhaps the plant lacks nutrition, in particular calcium, iron, potassium.
In this case, fertilizing from organic matter and ash is needed. The latter will need a handful. In the absence of organic matter, you can use, for example, azofoska (1 tablespoon per bucket of water).
It happens that an excess of soil with fertilizers can lead to yellowing of the leaves. Therefore, you need to observe the golden mean.
