Why in Uzbekistan the designers tried to make the loggias large - at least 6 meters in length

We are used to the fact that most apartments in houses built during the Soviet era have small balconies or small loggias. But this was not the case everywhere before. For example, in Uzbekistan, designers tried to make the loggias large - at least 6 meters in length. Why, I'll tell you.

Everyone knows that Central Asia during the Soviet era was fully serviced by engineers, architects and builders who graduated from Soviet universities. The education system was practically the same, but each republic had its own specialists. They took into account the realities of this particular climate and area. So it was with construction.

If in the European part of the USSR, residents of apartment buildings could get by with small balconies that did not allow the winter cold to penetrate into the apartments. Then, in sunny Uzbekistan, the construction of apartment buildings was practiced taking into account the dry air and heat. And they designed long, but narrow enough loggias-verandas so that more fresh air could enter the house.

The higher the floor, the hotter. Especially on the top floor of a high-rise building, under the roof, it is very stuffy. Saves only a large loggia, which does not allow the sun's rays to penetrate into the apartment itself, but allows the air to circulate intensively in the open space. Therefore, a feeling of coolness is created even on the hottest day.

One more nuance: the loggias in Uzbekistan were not glazed before just in order to save them from the heat. Subsequently, many residents, of course, installed double-glazed windows. I must say right away that glazed loggias are still better: in Uzbekistan it is not always hot, in winter it is very cold, the frozen space only aggravates the cold in the house. And in summer, you can always open wide windows and enjoy the fresh breeze.
