A fiery fireworks display, fellow gardeners!

Looking to grow a healthy garlic equivalent crop? You should be alarmed by the yellowing of the feather in the spring. I will tell you why it is worth taking action, what are the reasons for the unpleasant picture and first aid measures for the plant.

I have been planting winter garlic every autumn for several years: from the first year, when my patch of land appeared. Despite the thorough preparation of the soil and care "according to the book", the pen no, no, but begins to turn yellow. We have to find the culprit!

"Turned yellow, so what's wrong. Zinka too "- an opinion that deprives the crop

Yes, often the yellowing of the feathers of winter garlic passes without serious consequences. But I am not ready to risk the harvest in which time and effort are invested. There are 3 reasons to be wary:

  • In late spring and June, garlic is supposed to grow green shoots.

A change in color to yellow indicates that something in the conditions and care is going wrong. For example, the soil in the garden is too poor and the plant does not feed properly. Isn't it wiser to fertilize on time than to harvest 30% less harvest due to starvation?
  • The development of a healthy and large "bulb" of garlic is provided by the aerial part containing chlorophyll. Massive jaundice in the garden, again, will worsen the yield in quantitative and qualitative terms.
  • Sometimes yellowing of garlic leaves causes dangerous diseases and pests. And they need to immediately declare battle, so as not to be left with a nose.

Therefore, if Zinka's garlic turned yellow due to poor soil, this does not mean that the reason is the same in the neighboring garden. Perhaps the garlic is already rotting there.

The first step is inspection

First, you need to exclude the most dangerous scenario - diseases and pests. Donate garlic with yellowed plumage by pulling it out of the ground and looking closely from the inside (even in feathers).

Care errors are closely related to disease. Dry soil combined with nitrogen starvation leads to white rot. And garlic, whose owner loves to use it too much with a watering can, is under the blow of fusarium and penicellosis.

To list all diseases and pests of garlic is not enough article. Just look for any strange spots, "bites" on the leaves, and check the integrity of the teeth.

Fortunately, from my own experience, I know that ailments and pests of garlic are not such frequent guests. And the reason for yellow feathers in 80% of cases lies in care flaws.

Well, let's move on to the most important thing - agricultural technology?

By the will of the weather

Now the bird cherry blossoms. I heat the stove in the house in the evenings

Recurrent frosts will not destroy winter garlic. But they can grab a young feather. The official recommendations of garlic growers suggest that they close after the "minus" temperature forecast bed for the night with agrofibre, and then spray with "Epin" or another drug that mitigates the effects stress.

I'll be honest: I never do that. Return frosts here, in the North-West, have not yet brought significant harm to winter garlic.

To pour or not to pour: that is the question

I am of the opinion that underfilling is better than overfilling

The feather of garlic turns yellow from lack of moisture in the soil, but in moist soil it becomes a target of bacteria and fungi. 2 golden rules will help to keep the balance:

  • Water the garlic if the top soil in the garden is already becoming dusty.
  • Leave the watering can if the air temperature is below 15 ° C.
We have warm weather for a while and I have already managed to water the garlic bed 2 times. Because some strange northwest wind is constantly blowing and instantly dries up the loose earth.

But more often than not, it's because of a lack of nitrogen.

Let's admit, how often do we lay humus and (or) mineral fertilizers before planting garlic in the fall? Many planted according to the principle "And so it will do!" Naturally, by the beginning of May, garlic begins to lack nitrogen.

  • Feed the garlic with Nitroammofoski solution. It contains nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus in equal parts. After all, if the plantings do not have enough nitrogen, is it possible that potassium and phosphorus in poor soil is also small?
  • Use a folk remedy - ammonia, which collects a bunch of positive responses from summer residents on the Internet. The recipe is simple to disgrace: 25 ml per 10 liters of warm water.

I pour both products into a watering can and walk through the garden well. So it turns out both root and foliar feeding at the same time.
