Grouting tiles without dirt and cracks: life hacks (tricks) from the master
It is not at all cheap to repair a bathroom or toilet. To avoid wasting money, you need to learn how to properly lay the tiles, wipe the seams. Tile joints are a necessity that has to be measured.
Of course there are seamless tiles, but they are much more difficult to install. Porcelain stoneware has clear, even edges that allow for joint-to-joint installation. But still there is a minimum seam that needs to be closed with grout. Such tiles are rarely used, as they are 30% more expensive than usual. In addition, it is used where the room temperature is constant. Seamless tiles are not suitable for underfloor heating.
There are several types of grout:
- Cement (cement based grout). Frequently used,
- Polymer (silicone-based grout),
- Epoxy,
- Furanic (made on the basis of resin materials).
There are various additives for grouting: antifungal, latex, decorative (gold, silver, etc.).
When laying tiles on drywall, certain problems arise. To prevent the grout from cracking in the corners, use silicone grout instead of cement.
Do not use colored detergents to clean grout tiles. Stitches can change shade due to the dye in the product.
Secrets of an experienced master
These tips were shared by a familiar tiler. I will tell you the most simple and interesting ones.
1. In order to thoroughly and quickly stir the grout, some people use a mixer.
Better than stirring with a spatula and there will be no lumps. You can take the nozzle from the mixer and attach it to the screwdriver.
2. Remove the crosses after laying the tiles, remove the protruding tile adhesive with a knife or scraper, apply the grout with a trowel. Better to use a rubber one. In most cases, after a day, you can close the joints with grout.
When working with embossed tiles, it is better to stick masking tape between the seams. And then grout. This will prevent the tiles from getting dirty and will have to be washed less afterwards.
3. A special pistol can be used. It turns out much cleaner. Plus saving grout and time. Fillet joints are easier to seal than with a spatula. You don't have to spend money on a gun, but use a regular 20 or 160 cc syringe.
4. A trick for joining seams. Many do not bother and do it with their finger. But there is a better way.
Only the joining should not be done immediately, but wait a little so that the grout dries a little. Use a piece of cable to keep everything perfectly straight. It is very convenient for them to embroider, it turns out the same, non-intermittent seam.
