How I Prune Roses in Summer and Get the Second Wave of Amazingly Beautiful Blooms

The queen of all flowers, the rose, for many gardeners, unfortunately, decorates the garden only until mid-summer. But there is one proven trick, thanks to which it is possible to achieve the second wave of its flowering, almost more magnificent and lasting than the first!

First of all, of course, you need to remove wilted flowers. Otherwise, the shrub will begin to form boxes with seeds instead, that is, it will redirect the vitality and nutrients at its disposal to a goal that is absolutely unnecessary for the gardener! So, admiring the roses, I got used to simultaneously notice where and what begins to fade and almost immediately grab the garden shears.

But this is a well-known technique and is not enough for a truly gorgeous second flowering. Summer pruning of rose bushes, very reminiscent of spring sanitary pruning, is distinguished by its true effectiveness. That is, you need to remove dried shoots, clearly sick or weak, as well as those that grow inside the bush.

Also in the summer, immediately after the end of the flowering of roses, you need to remove the uppermost buds of the branches located in the axils of the leaves - they are still not ways to give strong shoots.

If there are hybrid tea varieties in the garden, then they are pruned even more abundantly than any others, namely:

1. On shrubs 1-2 years old, 2-3 buds are kept on each shoot, starting from branches located above 15 cm from the ground.

2. On adult shrubs, 4-6 buds are kept for shoots in the middle of the bush and 2-4 buds on lateral shoots.

Ideally, after pruning is complete, the hybrid tea rose bushes should acquire a neat, spherical shape.

It is necessary to prune roses with garden shears or pruning shears, which must be sharply sharpened and disinfected. If there is no special tool, you can disinfect the blades with alcohol.

Then, within a few days after pruning, the roses must be fed with something complex mineral. Based on personal experience, I recommend that you use 1/3 of your usual dose for each rosebush. Naturally, you need to make it after normal watering, in the early morning or evening.
