Dangers in the grass - spiders, ticks and other insects: what to expect and how to solve the problem Part 1
On the territory of the Russian Federation, there is an impressive number of dangerous insects that can harm health, cause severe allergies and even disability. We propose to get acquainted with the most dangerous and common insects that lie in wait for summer residents on the site today.
Ants
Most people consider ants to be rather harmless creatures: "They live in an anthill, work, are busy with their own business, they don't bother anyone much." They have a good reputation. But, in fact, ants are pests, can carry various diseases and in some cases pose a danger to the human body.
Ants are carriers of bacteria that can cause dysentery, cholera, and salmonellosis. Ant eggs can be carriers of helminths, which is also dangerous for humans, especially for young children, who may unknowingly or accidentally eat them.
A bite from large ants can cause severe pain at the site of the bite, as well as itching, swelling and inflammation. And if you have allergies, 3-4 ant bites can cause anaphylactic shock. If you have been bitten by an ant, it is recommended to lubricate the bite with alcohol and drink an antihistamine.
Mites
It is no secret that this problem is very acute in Russia. Every year in May - June, and in recent years and earlier, the season of ticks begins, which attack both animals and people. A tick bite can be very dangerous, as these arthropods are carriers of Lyme disease (borreliosis) and encephalitis. These diseases affect the nervous system and in some cases cause disability or even death.
The tick bite is practically painless, it is difficult to notice it immediately. Usually, a tick is found either during a detailed examination after a walk in nature, or when a well-sucked tick already begins to interfere, and the bite area becomes inflamed and begins to hurt.
It is very important to remove the tick correctly. You cannot tear off the tick body with your hands, because you need to completely get rid of the insect. Then the bite site should be smeared with iodine, and the tick should be taken to the nearest laboratory to make sure that it was not a carrier of this or that disease. During the quarantine period, this is problematic, but necessary.
If there are many ticks in your area, vaccinations are recommended. This also applies to pets, for which tick bites can be fatal.
Blind
In ordinary city or country life, you are unlikely to meet horseflies. However, if you keep cattle or if your area is near pasture, the risk of being bitten by a horsefly increases.
Blindflies bite painfully, and the bite site swells almost immediately, becomes dense and hot. For allergies, a horsefly bite can cause anaphylactic shock. Therefore, it is recommended to immediately consult a doctor and take an antiallergic agent. In addition, horseflies are carriers of such dangerous diseases as filariasis, tularemia and even anthrax.
Bees
Bees can be very dangerous to humans, as their venom is a strong allergen. Even if you are not allergic, a bee sting will be accompanied by pain and blistering. In the case of a strong allergic reaction, the temperature may rise, convulsions, vomiting and other symptoms of severe intoxication are not excluded. You should beware of a bee sting in the neck, as this can cause suffocation.
In case of a bee sting, it is necessary to remove the sting (if it remains in the body) and treat the bite with a solution of sugar, honey or fruit juice. If the bite is on the neck or head, you need to drink an antihistamine and seek medical help.
It should be noted that wild bees and ground wasps, which often hide in the grass, are no less dangerous. It is easy to step on them with bare feet. You can also disturb the earthen hive and trigger a massive attack.
Bumblebees
Bumblebees belong to the same family as bees. However, they are less aggressive, do not react to the presence of a person near their home. Insects fly quite low, so you may not notice them in the tall grass. However, it should be borne in mind that bumblebee venom is no less dangerous than bee venom. So, if you are bitten by a bumblebee, you should behave in the same way as with a bee sting.
Hornets
A summer resident may encounter an ordinary European hornet. This is one of the most poisonous insects found in our latitudes. Such an acquaintance is unpleasant. Hornets are quite aggressive, have a large body and powerful jaws with which they can bite. If you are bitten by a hornet, use the advice from the section about bees and be sure to see a doctor.
