I wash iodine stains in one wash and tell you how it's done

During self-isolation, you have to cook yourself, the poem has to cut the salad every day, but, alas, sometimes you can cut yourself with a knife. This time everything happened just like that, because of which I had to go into the first-aid kit for iodine to treat the wound. But the accuracy let me down again because I spilled iodine solution on my clothes. Such a stain will not be easy to clean, but I am not worried, because I am a chemist.

There are many different drugs in the pharmacy, we will have to buy one of them. Knowing well the properties of iodine, I decided to wash it off with the help of such a pharmaceutical preparation as sodium thiosulfate. Due to the reaction between them, iodine will dissolve. The chemical reaction looks like this: 2Na2S2O3 + I2 = Na2S4O6 + 2NaI

We bought the drug, but the substance is closed in ampoules. In order to open this ampoule, you need to find the blue dot at the top of the ampoule. It is on this point that we must press, that is, we must break the ampoule, pressing on the blue point.

If you do not want to hurt yourself, then I advise you to open the ampoule by holding it through a towel, then sharp glass cannot hurt you. In order not to spill the drug, hold the ampoule up with the part that should break.

The lid should come off completely, and if you can't do that, then you are applying insufficient force or you did not find the blue dot and are trying to do the impossible. The autopsy doesn’t require much effort, so check if you’re doing it right if you fail.

After opening, you need to apply sodium thiosulfate to the iodine stain, after which the stain will quickly disappear. If the stain is large, then you may have to pour the entire ampoule over it, but don't be greedy, because iodine stains are rare, and sodium thiosulfate is not so expensive.

After all these simple operations, it remains only to wash the laundry and there will be no stains, if, of course, you have applied enough sodium thiosulfate. I have no problems with this wash, which is not strange, because the whole procedure is simple even at home, but the stains completely disappear.
