With proper adherence to the cultivation technique, one can hope to get a good tomato harvest. One of the most effective methods of processing a crop is hilling, which is not used by all gardeners. I would like to note that this procedure has a beneficial effect on plants, therefore it is recommended to use it.

I used to plant tomatoes in holes and watered each hole. Well, and, of course, I had to constantly loosen the soil, since it was constantly compacted. My grandmother advised me to huddle tomatoes and, to be honest, I was very surprised after how the plants feel after such a simple procedure. And to this day, I continue to huddle plants.

What happens to the plants after hilling?

They begin to grow and develop faster;
Resilience appears as they become strong and well developed;
Plants bloom better;
Upon completion, you can get an excellent harvest.

What is the use of such a procedure?

The root system is protected from adverse factors;
The stem becomes strong and stable: it does not bend or break, the plant does not need to be constantly tied up;

The soil warms up much more efficiently;
The roots receive more oxygen, thanks to which they germinate and develop faster;
The risk of contracting various diseases and getting any damage is reduced;
Additional roots are formed, contributing to a greater supply of all the necessary nutrients;
The number of weeds is reduced due to their damage during hilling of the earth.

I water it with a hose directly into the furrows, because in this case the soil will keep moisture for a long time. That it was much more convenient to huddle, I plant the plants with 2 bushes for each row.

How to understand that the bushes need hilling?

To understand whether our tomatoes need hilling or not, it is worth making a little check. To do this, you need to carefully look at the lower stems of the bushes, and if white tubercles are noticeable here - future additional roots, this indicates that the plant lacks nutrients substances. In this case, hilling must be done. If additional roots are not noticeable, then there is no need for hilling.

After planting tomatoes in the ground, I carry out hilling after 1.5-2 weeks, thus, the hills become higher, the furrows are deeper, and the seedlings are better adapted to all conditions. I use this procedure in greenhouse conditions and in the open field.
