Do the leaves and branches on Cherry dry up after flowering? I tell you what helped me to cope with the Adversity
Fungal diseases of cherry lead to a significant loss of yield, with severe lesions, they can cause the death of the tree. The most dangerous fungal pathology of stone fruit is moniliosis.
May 2020 will be remembered for its cold and rainy weather. Despite the bad weather, the cherries bloomed profusely in my garden. Two weeks later, when I approached the trees, I did not recognize them.
On half of the branches, the leaves withered and darkened, the ovaries shriveled. The tops of the shoots acquired a "burnt" appearance.
The increased humidity provoked the lightning-fast development of moniliosis - "moniliosis burn". The disease is caused by the fungus Monilia cinerea, which hibernates in leaf litter and mummified berries.
The disease can affect all stone fruit cultures. Old varieties of cherries are especially susceptible to fungus: Vladimirskaya, Lyubskaya.
Long rains caused a strong growth of mycelium and led to the death of the crop. An accurate diagnosis was made when examining a section of a diseased branch: dark rings in the depths of the wood indicated moniliosis. Lack of treatment in such cases is unacceptable.
The development of pathology leads to damage to skeletal branches, profuse gum flow, ulceration of the cortex. A weakened tree may die.
To prevent the disease from spreading further, I removed and burned the damaged branches. Treated trees with contact fungicide "Abigo-Peak" (45 g of the product is taken for 10 liters of water).
After 2 weeks, the cherries were treated with a biological product "Gamair" containing a culture of live bacteria that fight the fungus and increase the plant's immunity.
Activities that I will take so that the disease does not spread in the next year:
· In the fall, I will remove all dried berries and branches, I will remove the fallen leaves;
· In spring I will whitewash the trunk and skeletal branches of cherries with slaked lime;
· In April-May I will apply fertilizer containing nitrogen to the tree trunk circle.
To prevent the appearance of fungus, I will carry out three times processing of cherry plantings with Bordeaux liquid:
I spray trees with a 3% solution of the mixture in early spring before the leaves begin to bloom;
· I will process the branches with 1% solution during the beginning of budding;
I spray 1% Bordeaux liquid a week after the end of flowering.
Activities will help cure diseased trees, prevent the appearance of fungal pathology.
Planting modern varieties that are resistant to fungus helps to exclude the appearance of moniliosis in the garden. Cherry seedlings Oktava, Brunetka, Gurtyevka are not very susceptible to infection.
