A forgotten but effective method of killing the Colorado potato beetle on potatoes.

In recent years, the Colorado potato beetle starts its "dirty work" earlier and earlier to destroy the tops of potatoes. Before the tender sprouts of potatoes appear from the ground, the beetle already lays its eggs and devours young fragile greens.

The female Colorado potato beetle is capable of laying up to hundreds of eggs per day. Just imagine how much she will save them over the whole summer. If nothing is done, then you should not expect a potato harvest in your field.

Beetle larvae, hatching, begin to destroy the plantings with great speed and soon I eat all the tops and the potatoes will die.

In specialized stores, you can purchase various products to combat this pest. Some of them are designed for spraying potato tops, while others are for treating directly the seeds before planting.

But all chemicals leave their mark on root crops and are bad for human health. In small doses, you will simply feel unwell, and in large doses, the body will get poisoned. This is why I do not buy potatoes from a store that is grown with a huge number of chemicals, not only from the beetle, but also from other misfortunes. Moreover, the dosage is increased many times over the recommended ones.

But there is an old and already forgotten method of dealing with the Colorado potato beetle, which will not harm the human body. Here is the method for its preparation: dilute 2-3 teaspoons of birch tar and the same amount of liquid laundry soap in 1.5 liters of hot water.

Pour the solution into a plastic bottle and mix well. When the liquid has cooled, pour it over the potatoes. The Colorado potato beetle does not tolerate these ingredients and will disappear from your garden very soon.
