Is the wireworm eating Cucumbers? I tell you how I coped with the misfortune without spending a penny
All avid gardeners know a pest with which the war can drag on for a long time. The wireworm is one of the most dangerous pests in the garden. He, like a cunning enemy, causes harm underground, affecting our vegetables. The cunning of the wireworm is that it spoils not only tubers, but also stems, leaves, roots and even seeds.
Before the hobby for the garden, I saw the affected potato tubers. Friends explained to me that this was the intrigue of a wireworm. I remembered the name of this caterpillar well, because peeling a leaky potato was not a pleasant thing: I had to pick out and throw out large pieces of the product.
Having become a gardener, I, as they say, got to know the enemy better. Adult wireworm beetles are not harmful to the crop, and the larvae are voracious and dangerous.
The insidiousness of the pest is that it perfectly withstands wintering in frozen soil. If you do not get rid of this misfortune in the current year, he will operate on the site in future seasons.
I was very surprised to see the wireworm marks on the cucumbers. It turned out that the gluttonous pest does not disdain anything: corn, tomatoes, beets, carrots, onions, cabbage - everything goes into action.
I consulted with the neighbors: they poison the wireworm with pesticides. I didn't like this prospect of "chemical" cucumbers at all. I started looking for other ways to fight the pest.
I tried different folk methods, of which there are many: gardeners protect their harvest with love. One of them turned out to be effective: I did not see any more wireworm tracks on my site.
The method of watering holes for planting seeds with a special infusion is not new. It is often used to grow various vegetables. The method is applied before planting. To prepare an effective infusion, you will need ordinary herbs that grow in any garden.
The mixture is prepared in the proportion: 2: 1: 0.5:
Nettle - two glasses;
• mother and stepmother - one glass;
Dandelion - half a cup.
To prepare the infusion, only fresh grass is taken: the stems and leaves must be finely chopped, mixed, filled with 10 liters of water and insisted for at least three days.
You need to water the wells with ready-made natural poison. An even greater effect is achieved if cucumber seeds are also treated with it, soaked for a day.
The smell of these herbs is irritating to the wireworm because of the bitter taste, and the pest prefers to bypass the cultivated garden. The method of watering the holes with herbal infusion will help to win the fight against a dangerous pest.
