Building your own home. Part 5. Aerated concrete laying using a carriage

Previous part: Diary of building your home. Part 4. Tips for reinforcing aerated concrete masonry

After reinforcing the masonry of the first row, I moved some of the blocks inside and placed them around the perimeter of the masonry.

Each row begins with setting corner blocks and pulling along the perimeter of the mooring thread. I pull two threads - one is responsible for ensuring that the blocks are in the plane of the wall, the second (upper) - control over the position of the block in height and so that it does not fall inward or outward (example in the third Photo). On the corner and end blocks I cut 3-4 cm (grooves and locks). You don't need to do this, but I decided to give the corner blocks a smooth, beautiful look.

The position of blocks with a width of 400 mm is very difficult to correct horizontally with a mallet. The blocks are heavy and immediately press the glue. But all the same, you need to control their horizontal position with a level.

It is better not to pour a lot of glue into the carriage. Under the weight, it falls faster into the voids of the locks (grippers) - the consumption of glue increases. I try to close these voids with scraps of glue-foam. More on this below.

I use glue from the same manufacturer as aerated concrete.

In the heat, I moisten the blocks with water. Otherwise, they will quickly absorb moisture from the glue and after a few seconds it will be impossible to fix the block with a rubber mallet. Blocks 400 mm wide, heavy, wet weigh more than 40 kg. But at this height, as it will become clear later, this is the easiest part in laying the walls.

The process of applying glue with a carriage. You just slide the carriage over the masonry. No smudges. They sometimes form if there is a chip on the block. By the way, I try to place the chipped sides inside. I make the whole and even edges of the blocks front. Inside, the surface of the walls will be plastered, and outside it will be without a facade for a long time.

I foam the vertical seams with glue foam. It is not always effective to coat them with mineral glue - gaps remain. And the glue-foam reliably holds the blocks together and ensures tightness. For this, there are grooves in the blocks produced by Sibit.

The final view of the foamed grooves. I cut off the excess foam and placed it in the voids of the capture locks.

The second row is in progress.

After laying the perimeter, I moved on to laying the internal load-bearing wall. It is tied to the outer walls. Here I am using a carriage with a width of 300 mm.

Final view of the completed second row. Partition walls will be erected after, before pouring the armopoyas.

The second row was laid out for three evenings (taking into account the foaming of the seams and the grouting of the horizontal surface after). Slowly, because has not yet filled his hand, as they say. I was in no hurry, I controlled every action. Using a carriage will speed up the process. I recommend it to everyone who will build from aerated concrete. About its manufacture article here.
