Many people dream of getting a household, but not everyone decides to do it. The reason - you need to invest effort and money; and what the benefit will be from this event, whether the costs will pay off is not known. Participant FORUMHOUSE under the nickname Rjhjktd shared his technology for building a chicken coop from pallets. It's cheap, functional, and might give someone the idea of a poultry.

How did the idea to have broilers come

Once my wife made a soup made from store-bought chicken. And everything seems to be nothing, and you can eat... But it just so happened that I spent all my childhood in the village and I know what a soup from real, fresh homemade chicken looks like. Still, domesticated animals cannot be compared with purchased ones.

An idea came up - to have broilers. I voiced it at the family council, received approval and thought about how to make a chicken coop with the lowest cost and the greatest efficiency. As the best option, pallets came to mind - their cost is low, but this is an excellent building material, especially when it comes to outbuildings.

Pallet chicken coop by my technology

I did it this way - read it, see if someone can come in handy. I took the EPS pallets as a basis and cut off the excess. Insulation was done with mineral wool. Sheathed inside the OSB - 9 mm (I bought the material for almost nothing - substandard). Outside plywood - 6 mm.

In the front I made ventilation (pipe cut d110). The back wall is hinged, on awnings. The roof is removable. I planned the roof in this way for ease of assembly, but with these qualities, the structure turned out to be heavy.

Base - cut profile pipe 100 * 100 mm, contour - reinforcement (d12). All elements (walls) are made as separate panels, according to the same principle as SIP panels. All this is collected in place by corners. Instead of glass, I took two pieces of polycarbonate (leftovers from the greenhouse).

Lighting and heating is an infrared lamp with power control. Nipple drinkers. There are sawdust on the floor.

Outcome of the event

The household members are happy with the chicken coop, especially me. Well, if the room is ready, it's up to the chickens. Broilers were housed 21 days old, 28 May 2019. They fed chickens pellets and mixed boiled potatoes, carrots, beets with mixed feed. Of the 15, two died on their own, the rest were killed on the last day of August. Average carcass - 4.5 kg (giants!). Now on the table is homemade chicken soup!
