How to make a neat silicone seam around the toilet. A little trick that always helps me out.
The final stage of the toilet installation is sealing the joint at its base with silicone sealant.
At first glance it seems that this is a very simple procedure and problems should not arise.
But, how then it hurts, when the seam turns out to be uneven and the overall impression of the work done is reduced to nothing.
To prevent this from happening, when sealing the seam with silicone, of course, you need to know the process technology.
And to achieve a perfectly smooth and neat seam, one little trick will help me, which always helps me out. Which one? Consider below.
There is one important rule of thumb when working with silicone sealant. The surface to which it is applied must be dry, clean and preferably grease-free.
Therefore, first of all, you need to prepare the place for applying the silicone.
The sealing process itself is quite simple.
With a construction gun, you need slowly and evenly fill the inner space of the gap with silicone sealant, moving as far as possible along the seam without stopping.
But when smoothing silicone, difficulties usually arise.
The fact is that the structure of the silicone is quite sticky and adheres well to dry surfaces and then wipes off with difficulty.
therefore when forming a seamso as not to stain nearby surfaces, many glue the edges of the seam on both sides with masking tape. Then, using a spatula, an even seam is formed.
But for many years I have not used masking tape in my work, because I use one little trick.
It's very simple.
After applying the silicone, it is necessary to moisten the seam and nearby surfaces with soapy water.
And form the silicone seam with your finger, periodically wetting it. The seam turns out to be slightly sunken, while it looks neat and beautiful.
