Orchids do not need a transparent pot! The main error
Phalaenopsis appeared at me recently. At first, I grow them as "accepted". That it is written on popular websites or in thematic communities in social networks. But I decided to go further by studying the special literature and the experience of growers, specialized in the cultivation of Phalaenopsis. And completely revised the care and content rules!
The main error - think Phalaenopsis needs a clear pot. It turns out that is not needed! Planting houseplant in plastic containers, unlucky grower deprives himself of the possibility to choose a beautiful and truly suitable for interior container under orchid.
On the Internet, we are told: the roots must always be in the light, because they photosynthesize. In fact, it is not fundamentally. The leaves are an excellent job of photosynthesis and there is no need to choose a clear plastic pot.
However, it has pros. Only 2 and a minor:
1. Phalaenopsis are sold in transparent pots, a buyer can assess the condition of the root system. After the orchid came to the house, it is transplanted immediately (even blooming!).
2. You can see when the roots zagniyut. It is useful for beginners who do not know about the principles of irrigation. I will write an article about it (by the way, the color of the roots will not tell us anything! - is second myth)
That's all. And here cons in transparent plastic pots for orchids longer:
1. Transparent pot looks ugly. It makes no sense to spoil the interior, since it does not bring any benefit.
2. Because of sunlight in a pot appear algae.
3. Very dangerous plastic pot with holes on the sides. In the Internet claim that since the alleged aerial roots (although in fact at the roots of orchids all the same) will "breathe".
In fact, they must be completely in the cortex, zaglublonnye under the lowest leaves. A hole in the side of the pot surface make the soil dry out much faster, because of what the plant suffers. After the pledge of healthy Phalaenopsis - always slightly damp bark.
4. Convenient ceramic pot. It must be massive: to accommodate all the roots to see a couple of reserve. Weighs impressive, so the orchid is not reversed due to its weight in the maximum dissolution.
By the way, spray phalaenopsis also makes no sense. But this is a topic of the following publications - subscribe to not miss!
