How to smoothly bend a plastic pipe into a bagel
Long wanted bend polypropylene pipe into a bagel, but could not find a solution. And now, the idea is ripe, now I am sharing it with you. This is similar to how metal pipes are bent using some kind of internal filler, such as sand. How this method of bending works, I show with an example pruning PP pipes.
Prepare the plastic pipe before bending. The first step is solder one edge with PP plug or otherwise securely seal it, if you can. Next, we collect water into the pipe to the eyeballs and from above we solder the second plug.
It is convenient to solder the second plug in a vertical position (photo 3).
It is better to pour water into the pipe warm or hot, this will speed up the bending. I begin to heat the sealed pipe over the gas stove, evenly heating it in different places and gradually bending it.
Since there is water inside, which does not contract at all, but also expands from heating, the tube will not break when bent.
I immediately cool the heated and bent pipe to the required degree with cold water, otherwise it will let go, especially if hot water is poured inside it. After cooling, we cut off the plugs with scissors, drain the water and use a pipe bend or loop at our discretion.
Such bends can be useful as contours when soldering a system or as expansion loops - expansion joints.
It will also be possible to heat the pipe with a construction hairdryer or a gas burner, only it takes longer. The finished loop was later unbent back in the same way. As it was shown in the video.
I look forward to your ratings!
