How to find the center of any circle? Two simple solutions from Soviet masters
I am sure that every home craftsman had a case when he needed to mark some round workpiece and find the center of its base. It would seem that this is very easy to do, but some masters cannot find a way out in this situation for a long time. Today I will show you two simple solutions with which you can quickly and accurately find the center of any circle.
1. The first way suitable for marking small workpieces. As an example, I will take a plug from a plastic pipe with a diameter of 50 mm.
In order to find the center of the circle of the stub, you will not need any mathematical calculations and complex manipulations. We only need a construction square and a regular ruler (or a second square), which are in any workshop.
We fold the square and the ruler together so that an angle of 45 degrees is formed.
Then, holding the square and the ruler with one hand, we apply them to the round workpiece (plug) so that it is in close contact with the two sides of the square.
Now we take a pencil and draw the first line on the plug, then turn it a little and make a second mark (it is enough to draw two lines, but to be sure, you can put three marks).
The whole problem is solved! The point of intersection of these two lines will be the center of this circle. This method is one of the fastest and easiest.
2. Second way suitable if the circle has a large diameter or it is located on a plane. For example, I have drawn around the lid of the pot with a pencil. In this case, too, everything is very simple. First, select any point on the circle.
Then from this point we draw two lines to the intersection with the circle so that we get a right angle (90 degrees). To draw these lines, the easiest way is to use a square (if the circle is very large, the lines can be extended using a ruler).
And now everything is very simple, we connect the points at which the lines intersect with the circle and measure the length of the resulting segment. Its middle will be the center of the circle. I'm sure many will remember this from geometry lessons. The middle of the hypotenuse of a right triangle inscribed in a circle is the center of this circle.
