"Do this and you will never suffer." The neighbor suggested what to do to easily unscrew the disks from the grinder
Winter has begun to lose ground a little and this week has been quite warm. I immediately got in a good mood and decided to make a small metal table for my workshop. To do this, I had to cut several corners and square pipes with a grinder, and then weld the entire structure. The task is quite simple and nothing foreshadowed trouble, but that was not the case.
My grinder lay idle all winter and a disk was screwed on it (left from previous work), which is still enough for a couple of cuts. Having cut a few corners, the disc was completely ground off and I began to unscrew the clamping nut to replace it.
But, no matter how hard I tried, the nut did not give in, firmly stuck to the disk. In the end, with all my efforts, I only bent the key. Yes, the key turned out to be quite weak, it feels like it is made of aluminum.
What to do now? I had to go to my neighbor for help, he always helps me out in such situations. Mikhalych, as usual, was busy with something in his garage. "Hi, neighbor! Need your help. I just can't remove the disc from my grinder, I even bent the key. " - I said, handing him the tool. "It doesn't matter, we'll do everything now." - the neighbor answered in a calm voice. First of all, Mikhalych slightly lubricated the threads with silicone grease.
And then, taking his key and applying some effort, he still unscrewed the nut. By the way, his key is quite massive and of high quality, it certainly won't bend. You will need to buy one for yourself.
Mikhalych handed me a grinder and said: "Here you go. BUT in order not to suffer so much again, do yourself one simple thing and you will always easily unscrew the disks from the grinder". His advice was very simple.
All you need to do is take a piece of thick cardboard (a notebook cover or a pack of oatmeal is quite suitable).
We apply a clamping nut to the cardboard and draw a pencil around its outer and inner diameters.
Then, using a clerical knife and scissors, we cut out this blank. You should get such a ring.
By the way, I remember my old grinder had such a ring in the kit, but then I did not understand what it was for. Now we install the disc, put on a cardboard ring and tighten the nut. That's all, with this little detail you can always unscrew the disc from the grinder without difficulty and you will not have to suffer!
