What strawberry bushes is it time to get rid of, you won't see the harvest, only Harm to the berry
Strawberries are my favorite crop. And, probably, I'm not alone. After all, the berries are very tasty and healthy. For the season, you can stock up on vitamins for the whole year if you eat this berry.
Moreover, not only fresh strawberries are delicious. You can cook jam from it, make compotes, you can freeze it or grind it with sugar.
And, of course, you always want to harvest as much strawberry as possible during the season. After all, usually the fruiting period is not very long. In 2-3 weeks you need to get the maximum of tasty and healthy fruits.
But in order to get a good harvest, you need to know many subtleties that relate to the correct cultivation of this crop. This, of course, is both care and feeding.
But it happens that you follow all the rules, the bushes are outwardly healthy and beautiful, but there are not as many berries on them as you want. The problem is that there are a lot of male bushes among your bushes.
And this is very dangerous for the harvest. If such bushes are not removed in time, then you can completely lose the crop. I would like to dwell on this in more detail.
Why you need to remove male strawberry bushes
· Male strawberry bushes do not bear fruit, which means they are completely useless.
· These bushes take up not only space on the site, but also take up moisture, nutrients that are necessary for female plants. Thus, female bushes will be weaker and yield less harvest.
How to distinguish male strawberry bushes from female bushes
· They can be distinguished by their leaf size and color. The leaves of such bushes are large, and the color is richer.
· The bushes themselves look stronger and more powerful.
· Male bushes have much more mustache than female bushes.
· There are practically no flowers on male bushes, and even if they appear, the fruits will not be tied on them. If tied, then small and sour.
· Flowers are large.
· The male bush resembles a cone in shape. You should pay attention to this sign when buying strawberry seedlings, so as not to buy male bushes.
How to remove male strawberry bushes
No special devices are needed for this. You just need to first loosen the ground around the bush, and then gently unscrew it, holding the base.
The hole that remains in the place of the bush can be leveled with earth. Of course, it is not necessary to get rid of all male bushes. But I would still advise getting rid of the majority.
