In Israel, in all houses, apartments, institutions, you can see an unusual rectangular object on the doorframe, which is glued or screwed on. This is a mezuzah, meaning belonging to the Jewish house.

The mezuzu is attached to the right on the doorframe. According to the Torah, it should be installed on every door of a Jewish dwelling, as well as on the gates that lead from the street to the courtyard.

Mezuzah is a scroll of two Torah fragments, which are written in the language of the Jews - Hebrew. These scrolls declare the existence of a covenant between God and the Jewish people.

It is imperative that the mezuzah should be written only by qualified scribes on parchment or special scribes of scrolls - sofas. The parchment on which the cherished words are written is made of animal skin, from its inner layer. It is made in such a way that after processing it becomes even and smooth. Such parchment for writing has been known since ancient times, and it was made only from kosher animals. The parchment is placed in a special case to protect it from moisture and dust. Some people use a mezuzah without a case, if it is installed inside the house, and protect it with a transparent film. The size of parchment is 5 by 5 centimeters or 15 by 15 centimeters.

According to the rules, a mezuzah is fixed on the jamb in its lower third at the entrance to the room, which should be at least 3.68 square meters in area.

It is believed that she protects the house and everyone living in it, this applies even to the time when the residents are absent and are on a long journey. Entering a house, a Jew first touches the mezuzah and then kisses the tips of his fingers. Thus, he shows his oneness with the creator. In Israel, the mezuzah is especially loved among the people, it turns the home into a small temple and gives a feeling of security and peace.
