Refrigerating room in a country house instead of a cellar: is it worth doing?

Suburban life is radically different from urban life, and these differences leave their mark. There are no hypermarkets or global sales in the village, but there is a household and a vegetable garden. If in an urban environment you can get by with a refrigerator, in rural areas this is not enough - you need to equip a separate room for storing food or dig a cellar. How the idea came to create a refrigeration room

Five years ago, we bought a country house in the village and moved there for permanent residence. The place is good: the city is close, the air is fresh, the nature is beautiful! Gradually, we got a taste of village life, began to roll pickles, jams, prepare bacon and other goodies.

In the first year there was a need to store all this. We bought one refrigerator, then a second, then a third, and after that they didn’t fork out anymore and decided to equip a professional refrigerating room.

Why a refrigerating room and not a cellar

Before us was a more economical option - a cellar, but I immediately rejected this idea. The first reason is dampness and the accompanying unpleasant smell of mold. The second is inconvenience, especially in winter and autumn. In winter, it is inconvenient to climb into the cellar, you need to clean the snow, otherwise you will find yourself on the ground with broken cans. And in rainy seasons, there is a danger that it will be flooded! Moreover, climbing the stairs back and forth somehow does not entice - we are still not on the obstacle course. The cellar is not a suitable option for us.

Our trump card

Well, there is also something to cover: my husband is a refrigerator and for this reason no difficulties arose. We allocated for these needs a small room in a house with a size of 1.5 * 2 and my husband turned it into a refrigerator within a month. It is very convenient: everything is visible, there is space to turn around, sort the products into shelves.

What's next?

We have appreciated our innovation and declare - a refrigerating room is better than a cellar! There is, of course, one drawback: they can turn off the electricity, but in this case there is a gasoline generator, and the walls are finished so that they will keep the cold for several hours without any problems. So, we are happy and even plan to build a freezer room, otherwise it is somehow not very convenient to rummage in the freezer chest!
