Why am I laying aerated concrete with mineral glue and glue-foam?
Recently, the technique in construction from aerated concrete to glue-foam is gaining more and more popularity. This method has a number of advantages over the traditional method of laying on mineral glue. I will list all the pros and cons that I saw.
I'll start by listing the advantages of masonry on glue-foam:
- no wet works, increased masonry speed;
- there are no cold bridges;
- work even at a small subzero temperature (with heated cylinders);
- beautiful appearance of masonry.
Cons of the method and subtleties that you need to know about:
- the surface of a row of blocks must be prepared: to grind all irregularities, height differences in the seams. Be sure to remove dust (preferably not with a brush, but with a hairdryer).
If this is not done, then as a result, everything can lead to the situation described in this article
- masonry on glue-foam has a slightly higher consumption and cost (based on the calculation of 1 m2 of masonry) than for mineral glue;
- the glue-foam seam shrinks and under the weight of the walls and ceilings the masonry will sag up to several millimeters. Those. deformations may appear somewhere. Whereas mineral glue does not shrink. Video example:
Perhaps this is not critical, but if the horizontal surfaces of the masonry are not brought out perfectly, there are differences in height, that is, the risk of cracking.
Laying on mineral glue has the following disadvantages:
- the seam is a cold bridge, even if it is 1-2 mm thick;
- wet works: water is needed, constant mixing of glue;
- the appearance of the masonry (smudges or smearing of the seams);
- wasteland in vertical seams with poor block geometry.
Having weighed all the pros and cons, I came to the decision that I would make the horizontal seam with mineral glue, and fill the vertical grooves between the Sibit blocks with glue-foam.
This avoids empty vertical joints and minimizes the risk of cracks in the masonry due to possible horizontal unevenness. Using a carriage for mineral glue - working with it is simplified and the type of masonry without smearing.
